Releasing Charge from Flash after Use

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I use a couple of Britek 500 Watt Second flash units which recharge in less than 2 seconds. It's alsmost impossible to shut off the flash units after taking a photo but before the flash units are charged and ready to fire again. I have been shutting off the units and then pushing the release button but don't know if this is an acceptable proceedure. I thought I heard once that with smaller camera mount units that you should shut them off after they are ready to fire. Any suggestions?

I would not hit the release button when done. The photoflash capacitors in the units will last longer if you leave them charged. This is a consequence of using electrolytic capacitors that degrade more quickly when discharged.

You should store flash capacitors charged. And you should exercise them on a regular basis through use.
