Malucci still has a job...greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread |
Malucci really got dressed down by Elizabeth last week. This week he's just back to his usual self. What's the deal? (By the way, I thought her speaking for the entire staff went a bit far, though that probably is what everyone thinks of him!)

If Carter will still have a job after this, then by God, so should Malucci. He made a mistake, like the precious "perfect" (please note the sarcasim" Carter pointed out, they all make mistakes. The lecture is going to serve as a lesson to Malucci. He has room to grow and I think next season, he is finally going to get some more action. Angel

Cherry, there are two-three threads below about Elizabeth and Malucci and whether she was in the right or not. You might want to check those out. I was surprised to see him so "the same" this week, but I think the dressing down will have an impact next season.

I feel that Elizabeth's outburst was done not to "lose" a doctor but to save a doctor. If Malucci is smart enough to heed her words then he will make it. If he doesn't change then he doesn't deserve to be a doctor. I applaud Elizabeth. If Malucci doesn't get word of the other doctors opinions before his end of term review then what chance has he got?

I was also thinking Dr. Dave was back with seemingly no ill effects from his dressing down, but after the epi was over I realized we didn't see him participating in any major trauma cases. Only the guy with the screw in his leg (OUCH!) which was a good "tough guy" patient for him to work on, and then Kerry wanted him to help on the hip reduction probably only because being a strong male he could use the necessary physical force. Perhaps he has been relegated to overseeing undramatic cases as a means of ego-reduction while still developing his medical skills. I'm sure Elizabeth and Kerry have discussed his behavior and Liz's confrontation to him.All in all, I like Dave and will be interested to see his character development next season. I hope he and Carter's friendship develops more--he needs a friendly peer.

Actually, if Dr. Dave should come out of this experience a "changed man," I could see a pretty weird dynamic emerge between him and post- rehab Carter. Imagine: Carter, the newly-humbled-formerly-invincible- young-superdoc, has to work with Malucchi, the newly-committed- formerly-slacker-rising-star. Those two are apt to have a VERY changed relationship next fall....

I never thought of that. I think Malucci could be a very good doctor if he weren't so stubborn, but none of the doctors are exactly perfect. I think it makes the show more interesting. By the way, malucci was in the movie U-571, and his character is exactly like Dr.Dave. I heard he is really a nice guy in real life. Dr. Dave will shape up next season, maybe...

Thanks for the input!Elizabeth - your picture of the relationship changing between Malucci and Carter was just priceless. Made me laugh. You're right - that could be VERY interesting. Maybe a little good competition between docs will lessen the mistakes and raise the quality of care in their ER!
