Next Bans Vote or Postinggreenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread |
Well, my hub has finally been ordered, so I should be back on line permanently soon. Anyway, there has been a lot of discussion recently about temp-bans on certain games, as well as techniques requiring banning, and some new splits to be made. I have some e-mails regarding this from Alex Weir, Phil Lamat, Ben Jos, and skito, so later today or tomorrow I will post what is currently up for debate and what has been decided so far regarding games in question. In the meantime, could players use this posting to list any current concerns over games or techniques that they want included in he next vote/debate? Seems like there are a lot of new problems starting to float around. Thanx.

I think that "king of dragons" the boot leg (kodb) should be banned cause there is no idea to play a game with an invissible character.. But maybe the mame team will fix that in a future relase of mame?Regards

There is little point in spending the time/hassle of banning a game, adding it to the bans database, and monitoring scores when the game itself poses a disadvantage to the player. Games like kodb do not need to be banned, because the player is not invinvible, only invisible. This makes it harder, not easier, to get a high score, and so when the game does get fixed, the scores will regulate and the previous low scores will be eliminated. This is why kodb has not been banned; it is exactly the opposite scenario of a game such as Fast Lane.

Ok Q.T i get your point there.. But I still think it is rather silly playing games and uploading scores to the marp page that are not "proper" scores.. (compared to the original) The game is not as it should be, so i think it would be left out until it is fixed... BUT of course all players have the same disadvantage to not see the character.. :)

May I make it for the record that you can't see the enimies, the obstacles, or the treasures either?I don't know if that will influence anything, but I thought I'd point that out :) GB9

I think i've mentioned all the games i can think of right now, but i wanted to point out there are at least two types of banned games, one where all of the recordings should be banned and anothe where some of the recordings should be banned, i.e. certain versions/recordings are ok as long as they playback to what the game resolves. There are several games in the later category, where some versions play as you are invincible or some versions don't playback correctly... i'm pointing this out to avoid banning all recordings of a game when some of the recordings work.
