Dr. Dave's remark in the lounge to Carter about paingreenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread |
I was just thinking about the irony when Dave was talking to Carter about his patient who refused pain killer in order for Dave to remove that thing from his leg, then Dave was talking to Carter in the lounge about how certain societies view pain as a good thing and a way to prove your manhood, or something like that.Anyway, I wonder what was going on inside Carter's head when Dave was talking about that. I know we can't really get inside the head of a fictional character and ask them what they were thinking, but you know what I mean. I wonder if he felt like a failure for not being able to handle his own pain. It's not his fault that he had to take pain medicine, because his pain was real. But it was ironic that Dave would say that to Carter, not knowing about his problem, and that Kerry, Abby and Mark all overheard him say that, and they DID know about Carter's problem!

Never thought of that. Wow, though I don't think that Carter was really paying attention to Dave, I think he was just trying to look as casual as possible in front of the others. Though it is very ironic how those 2 storylines kind of conflict. I hope Carter doesn't feel like less of a man, it wasn't just for pain that he was taking it, it was also to keep himself awake for those long days after no sleep.
