Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman: manufactured by Hollywood Beauty scientists? http://dellazine.com/silver/ews.html

I love reading movie reviews that contain even a smidgen of negativity. Then I don't have to see the movie and can save my money. Cause I am way more critical than most reviewers, I just don't always know how to put it into words, except that most big Hollywood movies suck. Oh by the way, did Cruise get to do one of his patented yelling scenes in Eyes Wide Shut?

I thought the movie was visually interesting, but it seemed like it could never figure out exactly what it wanted to be. It tried to pull off a little marquis de sade action, but failed miserably. at least Sade knew how to write really wacky sex orgies. kubrick's sex scenes made me think that he's probably been watching too much european soft porn. And then at some point, the film turned into a who-done-it mystery--for about 15 minutes. that was pointless. Then the ending; what was that all about? SJ, I had forgotten Alan the "SuperStar" was in this flick. What a stand out performance! So nuanced and layered. A drole spoof on modern mores.

Yeah, the movie was a big, beautiful mess. In a way, I think it got ripped a little too hard by the media, because they acted like Kubrick knew he was gonna die and "this is how he chooses to go out?" sort of incredulity dominated a lot of reviews. Really, I think Kubrick just needed to get out more, and it's too bad he didn't get a chance to. EWS isn't the culmination of his career, it's just this sort of half-baked, really lovely experiment that doesn't quite work. Having just seen it, I'm just really convinced no one could make a more beautiful movie than Kubrick. And Cruise gets to yell pretty good when he and Alice are fighting over secrets desires after the Christmas party, but the best is at the end when the who-done-it is in full gear. Tom says, in almost the same inflection that he did in A Few Good Men for the "I want the truth" line, "What kind of charade ends up with somebody getting killed?!" It's hilarious. He's my favorite actor to enjoy and disrespect.

You don't know whta it was about? Well if you don't know, then I won't bother telling you...you wouldn't understand.

The movie tried way too hard. What I can't believe is that Kidman/Cruise spent 2.5 years on this movie because Kubrick thought it needed critical character development. They didn't turn out to be so deep. They put a lot of the 2.5 years into those drawn out walks-down-the-streets, pausing before talking.

And Alice (Kidman) was a very unbelievable person.
