memory card advice, pleasegreenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
I have a Kodak 280, and find the 8MB card that came with it to be adequate as long as I am near my computer. However, we are planning to travel, and so I must buy more memory. I have several questions: First of all......Brands of cards. Should I buy only a Kodak card? I was at Best Buy, and I see they sell "Sandisk" cards. Can I use them easily in my camera or do I have to "format" them, first? Are they reliable? Also.......what is the best way to go when buying more memory. Should I buy SEVERAL 8 or 16 cards, or just buy one HUGE one?Thank you very much for any and all advice! Kathy

Sandisk is the orginal manufacturer of CF cards. Their cards will work, and are guaranteed for 10 million pictures. Cards do not need to be formatted. However, my Casio QV3000 manual says you can format them if they stop working reliably.A big card is probably cheaper per mb, and more convenient (no changing), but I know some people feel uneasy about having "all eggs in one basket". In any event, I won't go smaller than 32 mb.

The previous answer was very good. I have 32 and 48MB Sandisk cards for my DC260 and they work great. I've never had any problems. Joe

Hi Kathy,I bought a Sandisk 96MB card three months ago, 2,800 photos and no complaints. At full resolution of 1600x1200 with the minumum compression I get around 120 images before having to locate a computer. Couldn't ask for more other than an additional 96mb on top of this one.

I prefer having one big one.
