A really good book to read about this is "Castaway" by Lucy Irvine (Random House, 1983 ISBN 0-394-53542-1). She and her "husband" planned to bare-bones survive on Tuin Island (in the Coral Sea, between Papua New Guinea and the Cape York Peninsula of northern Australia). Turns out that even with tremendous preps, that without visits by "traveling nurses" and support (food, water) from the locals, they would have died long before the 1-year time limit rolled around...

Most important criteria for me: Is there fresh water constantly available? Next, what types of edible plants available during the course of the year (fishing is not necessarily always a reliable source of food - predator, bait, tides, moon phases). IMO, the rest is a "learn as you go" situation (I'm cheating though, I already know how to make rope...).

Interesting that the first person evicted was a woman. But to be fair, the runner-up was a man.

Is this show on more than once a week? I'd like to watch the continued evolution of group dynamics.

How much are they paying these folks?

The interpersonal dynamics were interesting. The older men who were ex-SEALS were used to leading/commanding and had a lot of knowledge, yet seemed to be resented by the younger folks, who most likely thought that THEY knew it all.

Also interesting is that the two people with the most exit votes were both old. I'm sure that the older woman had skills and knowledge that might have benefitted the group far in excess of what some of the younger ones have.
