GPID working to repair failed water system GRANTS PASS The Grants Pass Irrigation District says it will work all day, every day until it restores service to the thousands of patrons who have been without irrigation water for more than a week.

"Weve got everybody running fast right now," said GPID Chairman Don Greenwood. "But those customers will be without water until we get this thing repaired."

Greenwood would not speculate on when the irrigation district will complete work on the failed turbine system at Savage Rapids Dam, but he said crews are working round-the-clock to fix the problem.

The faulty turbine supplies water to the south Highline Canal, which services about 2,000 patrons south of the Rogue River from Grants Pass to Jerome Prairie.

On May 26, those customers lost service when the water-driven turbine somehow broke.

The districts other two canals, a gravity-fed line south of the river and the Tokay Canal to the north, were not affected by the failure
