Don't know a specific site, but do a search for Stieglitz's pictures of O'Keefe. Some include her hands, and are worth seeing.

Nicole,

The most recent issue of B&W Magazine featured the work of a photographer (I'm sorry, I do not recall his/her name) who makes photos of people's hands while seated in subway trains.

The photographer tightly frames a limited body area, showing just the hands, mostly clasped and resting on the subject's lap, while totally disregarding the subject's face. I got the impression the images were made without the subject's knowledge.

Very nice and expressive work. He uses available light, a Leica, and (if I remember correctly) Tri-X.

Hope this helps your quest. Good luck, Sergio.

This months View Camera has an article on Solarization where he spends way too much time talking about Man Ray's use of Profile and Hands.

Nicole, I would be most interested in what it is you're looking for in this idea. What is your idea? I am in the process of shooting hands because they are the only other part of the body that shows emotion. I am using two differnet formats to do it. 4x5 and 120. What do you need help with? Lighting, position, perspective? Let's talk about your idea and maybe we can help each other out. E-me off line. James

There is also a feature of an artist doing hands in "LensWork" magazine. This may be the same magazine as mentioned by an earlier post.

Nicole, Just a short update on previous post:

The photographer's name is mentioned is Louis Mallo, from Brooklyn, NY. As the previous poster mentioned, his work is also featured in Lens Work quarterly.

I first saw the much shorter piece on Mallo's hands photography in B & W magazine. The lenswork article is more in depth, and includes the photographer's comments about his own work.

Good luck with your project, Sergio.
