Formatting Vs Deletinggreenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
Would some one please explain to me when a smart media memory card should be formatted. I'm new to digital cameras and Olympus explains how to format but not when. I have been saving my images in the computer then deleting the images on the card and putting it back in the camera and taking more photos. Thanks for your help.

Generally speaking, you format them when you first get one and then only need to reformat when it doesn't work properly or you wish to reset the image numbering on the card. Some(most?) cameras give you the option of resetting the image numbering so that they start at 0000 again after formatting. A handy feature in that not resetting the number allows you to keep dumping the images to the same directory with no worry of copying over images that were transferred to that directory earlier.
