The Last Message from Blessed Mother Mary to Father Gobbi of Marian Movement of Priests 604 Milan, December 31, 1997 Last Night of the Year"All Has Been Revealed to You"
a "Beloved sons, in silence and in prayer, spend with me the final hours of this year which is about to end. Do not spend it in dissipation and entertainments, as so many of my children do.
b This year has been particularly important for my plan. You are now entering into my times. For this, I have traced out for you a light-filled way, along which all of you must walk, in order to live the consecration which you have made to my Immaculate Heart.
c Now all has been revealed to you.
d All has been revealed to you: my plan has been prophetically announced to you at Fatima and, during these years, I have been carrying it out through my Marian Movement of Priests. This has been revealed to you in its gradual preparation.
e This century of yours, which is about to end, has been placed under the sign of a strong power conceded to my Adversary. Thus, humanity has been led astray by the error of theoretical and practical atheism; in the place of God, idols have been built which everyone adores: pleasure, money, amusement, power, pride and impurity.
f Truly Satan, with the cup of lust, has succeeded in seducing all the nations of the earth. He has replaced love with hatred; communion with division; justice with many injustices; peace with continuous war. In fact this entire century has been spent under the sign of cruel and bloody wars, which have claimed millions of innocent victims.
g So then the Most Holy Trinity has arranged that your century be placed under the sign of my powerful, maternal and extraordinary presence. Thus, at Fatima I pointed out the way along which humanity must journey for its return to the Lord: that of conversion, prayer and penance. And as a safe refuge, I offered you my Immaculate Heart.
h All has been revealed to you: my plan has been pointed out to you even in its painful realization. Humanity has fallen under the domination of Satan and of his great power, exercised with the satanic and masonic forces; my Church has become obscured by his smoke which has penetrated into it. Errors are being taught and propagated, causing many to lose true faith in Christ and in his Gospel; the holy Law of God is openly violated; sin is committed and often even justified and thus the light of grace and of the divine presence is lost; unity is deeply split apart by a strong contestation directed against the Magisterium, and especially against the Pope; and the wound caused by painful lacerations becomes ever wider.
i In order to give the suffering and crucified Church of your time my motherly help and a safe refuge, I have brought the Marian Movement of Priests into being and have spread it through every part of the world, by means of my book, which traces out for you the road along which you must journey in order to spread my light. With this book, I teach you to live the consecration to my Immaculate Heart, with the simplicity of children, in a spirit of humility, of poverty, of trust and of filial abandonment.
j I have now been guiding you for twenty-five years, with the words which I have spoken to the heart of this, my little son, whom I have chosen as an instrument for the realization of my maternal plan. During these years I myself have carried him several times to every part of the world, and he has allowed himself to be led with docility, small and fearful but totally abandoned to me, like a little baby in the arms of his Mother.
k As of now, all that I had to say to you has been said, because all has been revealed to you.
l Therefore, on this night, there come to an end the public messages which I have been giving you for twenty-five years; now you must meditate on them, live them and put them into practice. Then the words which I have caused to come down from my Immaculate Heart, as drops of heavenly dew upon the desert of your life, so threatened by snares, will produce fruits of grace and holiness.
m From now on, I will manifest myself through the word, the person and the actions of this, my little son, whom I have chosen to be your guide and whom I am now leading to the painful summit of his mission.
n All has been revealed to you: my plan has been foretold to you especially in its wonderful and victorious fulfillment.
o I have announced to you the triumph of my Immaculate Heart in the world. In the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph.
p This will come about in the greatest triumph of Jesus, who will bring into the world his glorious reign of love, of justice and of peace, and will make all things new.
q Open your hearts to hope. Throw open the doors to Christ who comes to you in glory. Live the trembling hour of this second Advent.
r Become thus the courageous heralds of this, his triumph, because you little babes consecrated to me who live from my very own spirit are the apostles of these last times.
s Live as faithful disciples of Jesus, in contempt for the world and for yourselves, in poverty, in humility, in silence, in prayer, in mortification, in charity and in union with God, while you are unknown and despised by the world.
t The moment has come for you to come out from your hiddenness in order to go and shed light upon the earth.
u Show yourselves to all as my children for I am with you always. Let the faith be the light which enlightens you in these days of darkness, and let zeal alone consume you, zeal for the honor and glory of my Son Jesus.
v Fight, children of the light, because the hour of my battle has now arrived. In the harshest of winters, you are the buds which are opening from my Immaculate Heart and which I am placing on the branches of the Church, to tell you that her most beautiful springtime is about to arrive.
w This will be for her the second Pentecost. For this reason, I invite you to repeat often in the cenacles of prayer that I have asked of you: 'Come, Holy Spirit, come by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, your well-beloved Spouse.'
x With the love of a Mother who, during these years, has been listened to, followed and glorified by you, I bless you all in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

[From the Catholic media, with unofficial translation quoted]: The Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has issued a notice in answer to queries by Bishops, Priests, Religious and Laity regarding " the activity of Vassula Ryden, Greek Orthodox, resident in Switzerland, who is spreading, in Catholic circles throughout the world, with her messages attributed to alleged heavenly revelations. "
Released Oct. 23rd, 1995, the notice is dated Oct. 6th. It points out that " a serene and attentive examination of the whole question was undertaken by this Congregation... Other than pointing out the suspect character of the ways in which such alleged revelations occur, it is [our] duty to underline several doctrinal errors contained in them. "
It specifies several errors: ambiguous language regarding the Trinity; an " imminent peroid of predomination of the Antichrist within the Church " ;and " in the near future a Church which would be a type of pan-Christian community, in contrast with the Catholic Doctrine. "
" In addition, Mrs Ryden, by participating habitually in the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, though she is Greek Orthodox, causes not a small amount of amazement in diverse Church milieux... This Congregation asks that Bishops intervene in order to adequately inform their faithful, and see that no space be given in their dioceses to the spreading of her ideas. "

NOTIFICATION ON VASSULA RYDEN (6 October 1995)
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
Many bishops, priests, religious and lay people have sought an authoritative judgement from this Congregation on the activity of Mrs. Vassula Ryden, a Greek Orthodox residing in Switzerland, who in speech and in writing is spreading in Catholic circles throughout the world messages attributed to alleged heavenly revelations.
A calm, attentive examination of the entire question, undertaken by this Congregation in order to "test the spirits to see whether they are of God" (cf. 1 Jn 4:1), has brought out -- in addition to positive aspects -- a number of basic elements that must be considered negative in the light of Catholic doctrine.
In addition to pointing out the suspect nature of the ways in which these alleged revelations have occurred, it is necessary to underscore several doctrinal errors they contain.
Among other things, ambiguous language is used in speaking of the Persons of the Holy Trinity, to the point of confusing the specific names and functions of the Divine Persons. These alleged revelations predict an imminent period when the Antichrist will prevail in the Church. In millenarian style, it is prophesied that God is going to make a final glorious intervention which will initiate on earth, even before Christ's definitive coming, an era of peace and universal prosperity. Furthermore, the proximate arrival is foretold of a Church which would be a kind of pan-Christian community, contrary to Catholic doctrine.
The fact that the aforementioned errors no longer appear in Ryden's later writings is a sign that the alleged "heavenly messages" are merely the result of private meditations. Moreover, by habitually sharing in the sacraments of the Catholic Church even though she is Greek Orthodox, Mrs. Ryden is causing considerable surprise in various circles of the Catholic Church. She appears to be putting herself above all ecclesiastical jurisdiction and every canonical norm, and in effect, is creating an ecumenical disorder that irritates many authorities, ministers and faithful of her own Church, as she puts herself outside the ecclesiastical discipline of the latter.
Given the negative effect of Vassula Ryden's activities, despite some positive aspects, this Congregation requests the intervention of the Bishops so that their faithful may be suitably informed and that no opportunity may be provided in their Dioceses for the dissemination of her ideas. Lastly, the Congregation invites all the faithful not to regard Mrs. Vassula Ryden's writings and speeches as supernatural and to preserve the purity of the faith that the Lord has entrusted to the Church.

PRESS RELEASE : VASSULA RYDEN NOTIFICATION (Dec 1996)
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
I. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has received various questions about the value and authority of its Notification of 6 October 1995, published in L'Osservatore Romano on Monday/Tuesday, 23/24 October 1995, p. 2 (L'Osservatore Romano English edition, 25 October 1995, p. 12), regarding the writings and messages of Mrs. Vassula Ryden attributed to alleged revelations and disseminated in Catholic circles throughout the world.
In this regard, the Congregation wishes to state: 1) The Notification addressed to Pastors and faithful of the Catholic Church retains all its force. It was approved by the competent authorities and will be published in Acta Apostolicae Sedis, the official organ of the Holy See, with the signatures of the Prefect and the Secretary of the Congregation.
2) Regarding the reports circulated by some news media concerning a restrictive interpretation of this Notification, given by His Eminence the Cardinal Prefect in a private conversation with a group of people to whom he granted an audience in Guadalajara, Mexico, on 10 May 1996, the same Cardinal Prefect wishes to state:
a) as he said, the faithful are not to regard the messages of Vassula Ryden as divine revelations, but only as her personal meditations;
b) these meditations, as the Notification explained, include, along with positive aspects, elements that are negative in the light of Catholic doctrine;
c) therefore, Pastors and the faithful are asked to exercise serious spiritual discernment in this matter and to preserve the purity of the faith, morals and spiritual life, not by relying on alleged revelations but by following the revealed Word of God and the directives of the Church's Magisterium.
II. Regarding the circulation of texts of alleged private revelations, the Congregation states:
1) The interpretation given by some individuals to a Decision approved by Paul VI on 14 October 1966 and promulgated on 15 November of that year, in virtue of which writings and messages resulting from alleged revelations could be freely circulated in the Church, is absolutely groundless. This decision actually referred to the "Abolition of the Index of Forbidden Books", and determined that - after the relevant censures were lifted-the moral obligation still remained of not circulating or reading those writings which endanger faith and morals.
2) It should be recalled however that with regard to the circulation of texts of alleged private revelations, canon 823 '1 of the current Code remains in force: "the Pastors of the Church have the ... right to demand that writings to be published by the Christian faithful which touch upon faith or morals be submitted to their judgement".
3) Alleged supernatural revelations and writings concerning them are submitted in first instance to the judgement of the diocesan Bishop, and, in particular cases, to the judgement of the Episcopal Conference and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

[Personal opinions of "aaa":
(1) Totally avoid Vassula.
(2) Nothing definitive on Fr. Gobbi yet, but extreme caution is advised. His end-of-the-world statements were characterized as terribly faulty by a reliable scripture scholar. He was asked (though not required) by a Vatican official to refer to his statements as coming from his opinion/meditations, not as having a supernatural source, but he would not comply. He has a nervous problem (a big facial tix/twitch), unpleasant to see, which has always seemed to be a hint of dishonesty to me. Time will tell. (The Marian Movement of Priests, which he founded, is alleged to have borne much good fruit.)]

The Greetings of the Risen Lord Be with you, Hi, I have just been reading your report of 95 & 96 on Vasula Ryden The official one!. From The Catholic church. My question is of real importance for today on the same subject. I am under attack from people here, clergy and lay people in Scotland & Ireland, who are really sold on Mrs Ryden. I have to say I am not. I am looking seriously at these people and most of them are very easily led by supposed mystical happenings. I keep refering them to Scripture. I keep asking them to look at what they are doing, (by their fruits you shall know them).I have lost quite a few friends who have turned nasty since becoming involved with Mrs Ryden, what can one do?.I need very much to know what the church is saying NOW 2001 on Mrs Ryden, as these people are saying that we are to believe. I have even seen no less than 2 days ago in a Catholic Parish House, a cerificate with a Papal blessing on Vasula and her revelations. I do not believe this. Please advise. If I am wrong, I will have to do some serious thinking and praying.Kind regards,
Jeannette. C. Scott

JmjBe not afraid, Jeannette!
In February, an Catholic theologian, Dr. David Gregson, when asked a question similar to yours, replied in this way:
"The warning regarding the teachings and activities of Vassula Ryden, issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, has not been modified (http://www.ewtn.com/library/CURIA/CDFRYDN1.HTM). It follows that one must choose whom to believe, the Catholic Church or a private individual."Jeannette, please print the June 13 message (above), which includes the actual text of two Vatican documents that warned us against the Ryden errors in 1995 and 1996. Show these to the misguided souls in your midst. If they reject them, require them to produce for you other Vatican documents, with later dates, that abrogate those from the mid-1990s. They will be unable. (A simple papal certificate, obtained by fraud (or forged), is irrelevant (or cannot even be trusted). An explanatory document from Cardinal Ratzinger or the pope would be necessary.)
Be brave, Jeannette. Withstand the ridicule and rejection, even if you must be a single small voice. You are in the right.
St. James, pray for us.
God bless you.
John

To confirm, I have an article in my hand from '95, a local diocesan paper, stating from the Vatican, "The Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith warned Catholics against "alleged Heavenly revelations " of writer Vasula Ryden and told bishops not to provide deocesan facilities for the spreading of her ideas."Mrs. Ryden, who is Greek Orthodox, lives in Switzerland but has become influential in other countries through her writings.
We saw her when she came to Sacramento, and frankly, she gave many of us the creeps.

-- joseph N Barile (jnb26@fwi.com), August 24, 2003.
Dear Joseph,With all due respect, the fact that you see nothing objectionable in the writings of Mrs. Ryden while the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith does see such objectionable elements would suggest that you do not possess the necessary knowledge of Catholic truth to enable you to make such a determination. Which is exactly why we ordinary Catholics must rely on the discernment of the Church in such matters, if we have any genuine concern for the truth.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) has issued two Notifications concerning Vassula Ryden due to "some negative aspects". These notifications, which are warnings, not condemnations, retain their full force. Here is a relevant excerpt from an interview with Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith ("The Problem of Christian Prophecy," 30Giorni, No 1 - 1999):
----
This last question could be a little embarrassing. It regards a contemporary prophetic figure - the Greek Orthodox Vassula Ryden. She is considered by many faithful, and by many theologians, priests and bishops of the Catholic Church to be a messenger of Christ. Her messages, which have been translated into 34 languages since 1991, are known throughout the world. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has, however, declared negative on the issue. The 1995 Notification on the obscure points as well as the positive aspects of her writings was interpreted by some commentators as a condemnation. Is that the case?
RATZINGER: You have touched on a very problematical issue. No, the Notification is a warning, not a condemnation. From the strictly procedural point of view, no person may be condemned without a trial and without being given the opportunity to air their views first. What we say is that there are many things which are not clear. There are some debateable apocalytpic elements and ecclesiological aspects which are not clear. Her writings contain many good things but the grain and the chaff are mixed up. That is why we invited Catholic faithful to view it all with a prudent eye and to measure it by the yardstick of the constant faith of the Church.
Is the procedure to clarify the question continuing?
RATZINGER: Yes, and during the clarification process the faithful must be prudent, maintaining a discerning attitude. There is no doubt that there is an evolution in the writings which does not yet seem to have concluded. We must remember that being able to set oneself up as the word and image of interior contact with God, even in the case of authentic mysticism, always depends on the possibilities of the human soul and its limitations. Unlimited trust should only be placed in the real Word of the Revelation that we encounter in the faith transmitted by the Church.

In the past few years there has been a "clarification process" involving letters between Vassula Ryden and the CDF about the problematic aspects of Vassula's writings and practice. You may read these letters at the following address:
