I just watched "You Bet Your Life" and I loved when Maggie gave Carol a piece of her mind! I saw "Abby Road" last night and was glad Abby asked Carol what she had against med students. All she said was it's stupid before the patient got sicker and I said "Yes Carol, it is stupid for you to hate med students and interns. Too bad Lucy never asked her what her problem was with her. Maybe if she had Carol would have been nicer to her.

Maggie deserved the cold shoulder from Carol. Maggie was the one who decided to act all superior. If you treat her right, Carol has no problem with you. She liked Carter just fine. Carol didn't even have any problems with Lucy except that one incident.

I didn't say she was a good character. In fact I don't like her but I did like how she finlly confronted Carol about her dislike for her. I loved Doug's comment when Carol said "Do you know what I really hate?" and Doug went "Maggie Doyle". I was cracking up because it was so true even though she denied it.

Carol had a thing specifically against Doyle because she was from her neighborhood and her school and she admitted it completely that she didn't always like med students because she thought she couldn't make it. Nurses traditionally have a friendly rivalry against doctors. As far as Lucy, they had a few run ins, but overall, I don't think she had anything specifically against her. When she first came, she wanted her to do well, she even covered for her with Carter, but then she warned her she needed to be honest. She gave her advice about talking with Carter, she told Carter she liked her...and this was all after she covered for her. I don't think Carol was rude to Lucy about her knitting; she just asked her what she thought it was.

But I didn't like her obviously crabbiness against med students AND residents ("because they're even worse than med students") in the beginning of Abby Road. She just needed her Doug.

Part of Carol's problem with Maggie Doyle was that she was younger too and moving ahead of Carol (financially, in a position of power, etc.). This came through at least twice: once when they discussed being from the old neighborhood and Carol found out she was in class with Doyle's older sister. Then later when Carol actually said something about being older. Carol was going through an identity crisis when she met Doyle, having financial problems, not sure where she wanted to be career-wise (a nurse, management, a doctor?) so Maggie Doyle's presence (a younger chick from the old neighborhood who seemed to be doing better than Carol) didn't help...Maggie got the brunt of Carol's confusion. It also didn't help that their first meeting went poorly...Doyle had parked her luxury car in Carol's space (though Carol's car had been repossessed anyway) and, though Carol later found out it was from a police auction, her first impression of Maggie had to stick just a bit. First impressions can stick a long, long time.
