I heard that AITF episode had the highest ratings and more viewers than SSS. I was surprised because Julianna had been on the show longer than Kellie so I thought Julianna's departure would have had more people watching it. Does anyone have a opinion on why this is?

That is easy to answer. What about Carter? He was in danger too. I didn't even know that Lucy was going to die! It's an "unforgettable" episode. Any true ER fan would watch it!

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think AITF had the highest ratings to date but SSS and the MAY DAY both passed it up. Entertainment Weekly did a season wrap-up that showed AITF, etc. with the highest rankings but for some strange reason they did the article in early/mid-May before SSS and MD aired! I'll try to remember to look up the numbers and post them later. As for people watching to AITF more than SSS, I can see why they would. AITF was a much better epi, IMO, with a lot more going on...and many people knew Lucy would die. I'd never visited this site before but heard it on the news a few weeks before the epi aired.

I found the ratings for AITF and SSS. They didn't have it for May Day but I heard that it did slightly better than sss. Not much better though. AITF- 25.0 rating. SSS- 22.1 rating.

All In The Family and Such Sweet Sorrow had the exact same number of viewers. Both garnered 32.7 million viewers.

The ratings were close. All in the Family was promoted like crazy. People like guts and gore, and all you heard for weeks was how this was going to be the most shocking episode ever. Also remember all the hype about the ER losing one of their own--but not told who. Doubt it had anything to do with Kellie Martin leaving, as her role was never as distinguished as Julianna's. I don't think anyone at NBC is crying over SSS's numbers.

I read AITF earned almost 40. and it beat SSS.

Here are the FINAL ratings for the shows in question. Yes, AITF did beat SSS quite handily. AITF-25.0/39 for 39.6 million viewers. SSS- 22.1/36 for 32.7 million. AITF was the 5th highest rated episode in the series after Hell and High Water, A Hole in the Heart(28.8/45), Ambush(28.5/45), and Union Station(25.5/42).

I think those were the ratings for "Be Still My Heart". I remember those numbers attached to BSMH rather than AITF. According to newspapers and Entertainment Weekly, SSS and AITF both had 32.7 million viewers

"May Day" actually had higher ratings than SSS. So for the season it was "All in the Family," "May Day" then "Such Sweet Sorrow"

It seems like most of the really popular episodes, in the title of the episodes, all or most of the words start with the same letter: Loves Labor Lost, Hell and High Water, and Such Sweet Sorrow. That just seems weird to me.
