FL, Water main break results in boil water order in Flagler

FLAGLER BEACH  City water customers are being urged to boil all drinking water because of possible contamination from a water main break this morning. The boil-water order could remain in effect all weekend.

"Water users are being asked to bring the water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for cooking or drinking," said Acting City Manager Angela Apperson.

The boil water notice will remain in effect until tests of the city water are completed. The city is using outside testing agency, so Apperson does not expect the results before Monday.

Water pressure was affected throughout the city, although residents west of the Intracoastal Waterway apparently took the brunt of the pressure problem.

"From what we understand, the people on the westside have little or no water pressure," Fire Chief Robbie Creal said.

He said the city was using backup water in three storage tanks, but until the repairs are completed, city customers are being asked to conserve water. Apperson anticipated the main would be repaired by the end of the day, although the boil water notice would remain in effect.

The broken water main is on the west side of the Intracoastal Waterway, west of Colbert Lane and north of State Road 100.

Resident can get updates on the water situation by tuning to Channel 2 on the Time Warner cable system or by checking the Flagler County Emergency Services Web site at www.flagleremergency.com.
