Sony S-70 manual white balance and flash connector

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi!

TWO QUESTIONS... I plan to buy the S-70. In the specs, there is a manual white balance option. Every review I have read so far talks about the merit of the auto white balance but does no mention the virtue of having a +hold; (manual) setting. Is there really a manual balance on this camera ? Now, the saving money issue: the flash sync connector, is it working only with the Sony external Flash or it can accept my old Vivitar 283?

Any tip will be appreciated...

YES, the DSC-S70 has manual white balance. However, there isn't a White Balance button. Instead, you have to activate the feature through the on-screen menu, which is also true for +/- exposure comp. This isn't very difficult, it's just less convient than hitting a single button. Personally, I would prefer if all of the exposure and focus controls could be manipulated while looking through the viewfinder.

For the flash sync connector, my understanding is that it is a proprietary connector. It's described in the manual as a "mini-jack", and there is not a flash hot shoe.
