Help me learn?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Squishy : One Thread |
I posted a question here a while back asking for advice about where to host my site. After having researched tons of different hosts that everyone was kind enough to recommend for me, I have run into another brick wall. I don't know SQUAT about most of the services they offer. I know I want 24/7 live-person tech support, and guaranteed uptime, etc., but I don't understand for the most part what the other stuff is. Anyone have any ideas of where I can go to LEARN (in plain English!) what the heck things like SSI, CGI, etc., are? A web site would be ideal, but I'd happily buy a book if it had what I needed. (I'm hoping this question makes sense. I'll be happy to try to clarify if necessary!) Thanks!

When I got into web hosting, I didn't know any of the acronyms, either. My manager pointed me to Webopedia and it's been a lifesaver. Let me know if I can help you out further. ;)

I find Webmonkey to be one of the best resources for learning basic web stuff.
