Personality characteristics

I'd like to know what the general characteristics of a Maine Coon are. I have a cat now who is a mixed breed, but he has some of the characteristics I've read about other people's MC cats. Samson is a stocky, muscular cat with long fur, tufts of fur between his toes, large paws and big, gorgeous golden eyes. He loves water (when it's not a bath!), playing fetch, and generally "rough housing" with me. He also follows everyone around the house like a dog and will beg at the table. If I could find another cat like him in the future, I would be thrilled. From what I've heard, a Maine Coon just may be my best bet.

You're right--a mainecoon would be your best bet--sounds like you're close with those personality traits! That about describes one!

I love my Maine Coon, he was a stray and has the best personality ever. He follows me around and knows the word treats, because he can be at the front door and all I have to do is ask him if he wants one and he comes running. He also seems to know the word brushed. All I have to do is ask him if he wants brushed and he will lay there and let me brush him for about 15 min. I can tell him down and he knows to head for the basement it's time for me to leave. It's nice there. He never is allowed on the table or in the bedrooms. I'm allergic to cats too. But he also has allergies according to the vet.

Barbie, Sounds as if you are close to a MC. Ours is the boss and will let you know it PDQ. Very loveable when he chooses. Talks non-stop and announces his presence with authority (hence the name Town Cryer, T.C. for short). No finer breed in or opinion.
