Will the seasons be sold on video? I really would like to have the show on DVD. With DVD you could also put up sub-menus to look at plans and such..... Just an idea.

Thanks for this. We are thinking at the moment about what other Junkyard products/information people would like to see (we had been thinking about a book, but maybe a DVD is a better idea). Has anyone else got ideas of what they would like to see?

We are moving this website to a new server, which will make it easier to keep up to date over the summer. Hopefully we will be able to get some of the information that you would like to see on a DVD up on this site. (Apologies to everyone that the website is a bit out of date at the moment - I'll be getting it sorted over the next few days)

I think the dvd would be nice if you could go to the menu, look at plans, background info on the players, their demo tapes, behind the scenes stuff would be really cool, maybe little science bits on the principles that each plan is based on........ not sure what else....animations and such.....

I think a DVD is an awsome idea! I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Maybe, like Johnathon said, have the teams' demo tapes, the designs, and the history and scientific principles behind all the creations.

YES!, A DVD.. Also include follow-up information, such as why the cylidrical projectiles got stuck in the cannon barrel. Why a fuel-injected engine was a bad choice for the amphibious episode (you'd need the computer(s) and virtually the entire wiring harness to make it run), etc. Perhaps some post-game discussion about what went wrong, and how it might have been done better. (The air compressor needed for the mini salvage could have been one cylinder of a running engine.) I have absolutely no interest in spectator sports, but this.... I need MORE!

Just remember us NTSC types when you start mastering DVDs. North American fans want to see them, too!

Great show, watched it religiously, then again during the re-broadcast later in the evening. Great fun playing armchair engineer and scoffing at the designs I don't think will work (which usually end up winning - what do I know?) Glad to see I'm not the only guy whose welds look like they were squeezed out of a toothpaste tube, but function before form, right?

I think a DVD would be great, better than tape. If possible I would like to purchase an extended length version of each episode (2 hours or more). I would like far more on the construction and the teams working out the design. An hour of Junkyard Wars goes way too fast! (I understand that you have a lot of tape to edit into each episode.)

I don't think 2 hours per episode would be worth it. There are reasons editors are hired..... I would much rather buy a DVD with a whole season on it, rather than have to dish out $20-$30 for each episode....... plus, it would save time on disk swapping :) New Junkyard war... 10 hours to build a machine to delicatley change dvd's

I just wanted you to know that I too support the idea of DVD. Also, the idea about including the plans, scientific principals and what went wrong segments sounds good. Please consider releasing several shows on a DVD. I would definitely purchase this. Oh... and don't forget to release it in Canada and in NTSC format please! :)

I pretty much picked my major (engineering mechanics as opposed to chemical engineering) based on watching this show once. PLEASE MAKE A DVD OF EACH SEASON AVAILABLE! the plethora of stuff you could put about this show on a dvd is mindblowing. Please make a dvd. (i'll buy enough to make it worth your time... really.)

DVDs are not encoded in PAL/SECAM/NTSC, but the players convert the DVD digital data into an NTSC signal. In theory, any DVD will work on any player around the world.

But it isn't that simple. DVDs have a Region code on them that prevent them from being played outside region that they are intended for. It is all for commercial reasons, not technological ones. When making DVDs, it is simple to make different DVD masters for different reasons.

I've heard that some people will deliberately leave a region code off of their disc, enabling it to be played on any DVD machine in the world. Since the region codes were primarily designed to prevent people from acquiring home video copies of movies from other countries, before they'd hit their local country's theaters, it would be a waste of technology and time to put one onto a television-program based disc anyway. So how about that for an alternative? non-region codes discs would enable fans wordwide to purchase copies, and save on having to master diferent versions for different areas of the world.

When you get right down to it, region-coding is really a huge waste of money since it prevents a product from being sold.
