"Fast" (4x/8x) CompactFlash cards

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I recently purchased an Epson PhotoPC3000Z, which came with a 16Mb Complact Flash cards. I'm looking to buy an additional (and larger) flash card, and am now seeing "4X" and "8X" CompactFlash cards on the market. These "faster" cards are more expensive than the "standard" cards.. Do these "faster" cards actually make a difference or is this marketing hype? Regards. Any recommendations on flash cards brands that have a good track record?

This question has been asked here many times. Here are two answers to a previous one: =============

sandisk doesn't want to advertise the speed of their cards, where they have a competitive disadvantage with lexus. They don't want you buying based on speed.

The lexar stuff is faster, but whether the speed will actually benefit you depends on the camera you buy. It only helps on some operations and not others. The only place I know of with an objective analysis of this stuff is feather canyon news (or is it feather river canyon?)
