Biggest Water Main Break Is History Pittsburgh city water crews have finished repairs to what is being called one of the city's biggest water main breaks. Massive amounts of water created a sizeable stream yesterday from Schenley High School to Center Avenue in Oakland. The break at North Dithridge and Center Avenue involved a 20-inch pump line, which sent between 15-and-20-million gallons of water onto the street. During a normal day, the area would use between eight-and-ten million gallons. Many of the hospitals in Oakland had low or no water pressure. While water service was fully restored last night, many residents will not see full water pressure until sometime this morning.
