What's your favorite TV channel?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Xeney : One Thread |
What's your favorite TV channel? I just got a new tv, and have been scrolling through the various cable options. I have about five thousand sports channels, the golf channel, three HBOs, the Game Show Network, QVC, and FOodTV, among other more popular channels. My personal favorite is Lifetime. I love cheesy sappy movies that make me cry. And yes, I do cry when I watch those movies. I'm a sap.

Hi. My name is Meghan and I am a QVC addict.
"Hi Meghan! {Applause}"
I have a Q-Card. I have several other credit cards all for the sake of making purchases at QVC. I have picture-in-picture on the TV that I just purchased because I *always* have to have QVC on in the background while I am doing other things.
In the past month alone, I bet I ordered over 40 items from QVC. Stay away from that show unless you want to go into credit card shock from all of the purchases. *Laughs*
The worst form of addiction? I e-mailed one of the hosts on QVC and we struck up an e-mail/ICQ friendship. We talk almost every night. Isn't that sick? :o)

ESPN, and Classic ESPN.Let me clarify that. I HATE ESPN, but unfortunately, not all my Dallas Stars hockey games are on regular TV, so sometimes I have to put up with assholes like Barry Melrose and Bill Clement to get my hockey fix.
Classic ESPN is great. I love watching old Chicago Blackhawk games on it. Bobby Hull...whotta guy!

When I had cable, I had a serious addiction to A&E and Lifetime (all those Sally Field, who stole my child shows.) Love, love, love Biography. Kills me that I don't have A&E. On Lifetime, I really like Katie Brown. She's a million times better than Martha - mainly because you don't have anxiety attacks about the neatness of your house from watching her. Martha drives me nuts, but Katie rocks! My aunt has HGTV. Whenever I go visit, my cousin and I both sit watching HGTV for hours on end! Makes me want to build my own house & at the end of the day, you almost feel like you really could!

FoodTV and Animal Planet. Not The Crododile Hunter and Mark O'Shea on the latter, since they are both certifiable and highly annoying.I long for the Game Show Network. I'd love to see some episodes of Match Game.

I don't have cable anymore, but for awhile Law & Order reruns on A & E were followed by Homicide reruns on Lifetime. It was glorious. I was up 'til 1AM watching this every night.I was also addicted To Mary Tyler Moore, followed by Rhoda, followed by Phyllis on Nick at Nick when I was recovering from surgery. All that perky goodness was great for cheering me up. Everytime I heard:
Who can turn the world on with her smile? Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're gonna make it after all
How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, girl this time you're all alone
But it's time you started living
It's time you let someone else do some giving
Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have the town, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're gonna make it after all
I got choked up.

I'm Canadian, so some of these channels might confuse you.I love love LOVE Space. That's our Sci-Fi channel. Love it. Watch it all the time.
Love A&E. TLC. Discovery.
Hate Teletoon. Hate them. Not for their content, but because I moved to Edmonton to work for them, and they fired my ass after three months. I had no money to move back, because I had spent it all moving here. I was replaced after three weeks (to the day-- that hurt) and then I found out that they replaced my replacement within three months of hiring HER. And I was someone else's replacement. So, that's four people in 2 years doing the same freaking job. At least I know that I wasn't fired because I was bad at my job, but because the people at HO in Toronto didn't know what they wanted. And by now they've probably replaced my replacement's replacement. I almost didn't get cable because I would have to get Teletoon. But screw that. No Teletoon, no Space. I need Space. So I just block Teletoon from my lineup.

Re: Lifetime -- anybody watch ANY DAY NOW? That HAS to be the best-show-nobody-ever-heard-of on television. Annie Potts and a black actress whose name I don't know (shame on me). Set in Birmingham, AL -- a dual story told in the present and in the past, when they were children trying to be friends with the civil rights movement going on in their own back yards. Fabulous acting and great writing. Check it out.Re: QVC -- I'm not addicted because they show too much jewelry and stuff, but I sure do love my Freedom Bags.
I like the gardening shows and some of the decorating shows on HGTV. Some of the travel shows on The Travel Channel. Some of A&E.
And I still like network tv, though I rarely remember to watch it.

I **LOVE** Any Day Now, although I watch it far less than I ought to. I the interaction between the two main characters is phenomenal, and the lessons - oh, the lessons! Did you watch the last episode, about racial profiling & DWB (driving while black)? It really stopped and made me think about all that is wrong with today's society. And that we've come very far, but have so, so far to travel yet.I'm glad that I have a friendship that mirrors the one that is on the show. Any Day Now makes me happy :)
So does TLC's A Baby Story. I'm a sucker for ugly babies (and most babies are kind of pruny & ugly when they're first born, n'est-ce pas?)

Joy: Steve Bryant. I've talked with Kathy Levine before she left the show, but she never really responded to e-mails like Steve did. Who knows, maybe I just attract the fellow electronic nuts like myself. *G*

I like good old fashioned CBS-- I just started watching it lately since Big Brother is on and I'm too lazy to change the channel afterwards. I've found some gems: the King of Queens, Judging Amy, Family Law... some other shows that I can't remember the names of-- not to mention Survivor and BB.Cablewise, I like the Home and Garden Channel. I don't know why they save their best programming for Saturday nights, however. Oh yeah, because people who watch the Home and Garden channel probably enjoy their home so much that they never go out on Saturday nights...

The WB. I don't have cable. All I can do is watch cheesy, stupid teen TV and hope it doesn't actually turn my brain to swiss cheese.

Cartoon Newtwork. Go Powerpuff Girls, go!

Discovery & TLC. I wasted a couple of hours last night watching the emergency room show and The New Detectives. I also like the paramedics show. When we first got cable I watched all the shows about natural disasters, but I've kind of gotten over that.
We love ESPN Classic too.

Man oh man. THere's this show on the Animal Channel or whateverthefug it's called. Stupid animals do really retarded things. For some reason, it's always on when Anthony and I go to a diner in our neighborhood.I've begun to seek it at home. Yes, I put on the Animal Network Channel thing and look for animals doing backflips and playing the piano. It's a sickness.
I also adore my Powerpuff Girls, and am a Cartoon Network fanatic. If I have a bad dream (frequently, lately) the only thing that will put me back to sleep is the soothing, non-threat of cartoons.
Oh. And my other secret shame: The Style Channel. Beautiful vacant models, looking beautifully vacant. Rapturous rapture over houses and shabby chic, avacados and weddings. Noxious on one level. Totally engrossing on another. Shamed and shallow, yes I am.
