CHAPEL HILL -- About 1,000 gallons of wastewater spilled out of a pump station operated by the Orange Water and Sewer Authority on Monday morning, according to Greg Feller of the authority. The spill did not reach any creeks or streams.

A resident reported the spill, which occurred near Lancaster Drive, about 8:30 a.m. Twenty minutes later, OWASA officials stopped the spill by manually turning on the pumps. Failure of the control equipment that activates the pump starting sequence was determined to be the cause of the overflow.

Officials say the control system is now working properly. The spill was reported to the N.C. Division of Water Quality.

I apologize for scaring you. The headline was not made up as it was a cut and paste directly from the newspaper, but I will be more careful in the future and 'mellow down' the headliner manually . Regards,
