I am looking for Nigerian Dwarf goats. Does anyone know of any for sale in the Indiana-Midwest area. I am wanting to buy some out of a milking herd if possible. Greg

Contact the Nigerian Dwarf Goat Assoc. web-site www.ndga.org/ndga.html

Scroll down the page and you'll find a spot where you can email them. They can surely get you in touch with someone in your area.

I was at the Indiana state fair last wednesday (the 16th) & saw them unloading dairy goats into the pig barn. I was there getting some dairy cattle breeders addresses for when I'm ready (in a couple of years) to get some animals. I went through the barn on the day they were showing & got addresses from those (milking shorthorn) people that were breeders & not just 4H kids. This breed isn't very common & yet I came home with several addresses (thought I'd be lucky to get one, but got 6 instead). This can work for you so long as you get to your local (state prefered over county) fair in time for that kind of animal to show. Too early & those animals won't be there yet, too late & you miss them (they went home). Don't worry about talking to anyone at a show, just go through the barn & find every place your prefered breed is stalled. Some people will be at the barns (waiting their turn or waiting for someone else thats showing), & some will have their address & phone # at the stalls. If this doesn't work (in either case you also get a fun day or two at the fair) you should get a listing from the breed registry of breeders not just in your area but in the neighboring states as well. This way you have a broad range of addresses to choose from, & can occasionally bring in a male from another state for diversity.

Good luck
