I will purchase the CoolPix 990. It can only store 12 images at its highest resolution. What are the best alternatives to significantly increase the storage capacity? A micro-drive? One or two extra CompactFlash cards? Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Patrick Chapman.

Hello. Well, there's not much you CAN do but buy a bigger compact flash card. I have a CP990 and have yet to even use the Lexar 16MB card that came with the camera. The micro drive I believe is a type II compact flash card which will not work in a CP990 (please correct me if I'm wrong anyone). I bought a couple of 32MB cards. the first card I bought fits 31 fine jpegs. It seems just fine for taking the shots I need although I did buy another 32MB card for a back-up. I suggest (if you can afford it) buying a 64MB card. Good luck and have fun!

Hi. I worried about this when I bought by CP990 but then stumbled across a solution that works out very well for me because I happened to have an old notebook that I'd grown out of.

I learned later than you can get a PCMCIA (PC card) device called a card reader (about $15) that my CompactFlash plugs into. I pop that into the card slot my notebook and it appears as a drive on my computer.

The reason this works for me is that I just pack the notebook computer along with me when I go on extended shooting trips (leave in car, or even in backpack) and move the pictures off the CompactFlash onto the hardrive (and I can view them easily with ACDSee software). It's a great solution but of course only makes sense if you happen to have an old notebook kicking around.
