I have a 5 month old male kitten who, I believe, is a Maine Coon. He fits all of the descreptions. Well, he (Smokey) is having trouble learning how to use his litter box. He will use it for a good length of time, then I will find piles behind the couch or under the bed. I clean out his litter box every day. He is a healthy cat. If you have any suggestions, please E-mail me Thank you Stacey goldsberry

Dear StaceyHere an answer from the Netherlands. Try to place TWO litterboxes. Many cats don't like to use one box for (what you call in the US) number one and number two, or...in plain english: they often like to pee in one box and poop in the other. And also place the litterboxes in quiet areas where your cat won't be disturbed. See what happens! Good Luck

I agree with the previous post about two boxes and about good placement of the boxes. You might have to experiment some about placement. Another thing to consider is the type of litter. I have a cat who is extremely fussy about litter and will like a litter for a while and then let me know that he no longer likes that litter and I have to try something else.
