i now have a nigerian dwarf buck

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

As some of you may remember awhile back I posted requesting information on Nigerian Dwarf goats. After reading what you all said and going to the ndga website for more information I decided I wanted a Nigerian Dwarf Goat.

Today that dream became a realty as one of the people on the ndga list of breeders delivered at a very reasonable fee in addition to the cost of the buck one nigerian dwarf named Joshua. He is in his new home and settled down for the night.

The person I bought him from also posts some on this forum. Besides haveing a great looking goat it is nice to know that I can e-mail her if I have questions as well as the great people on this forum. Thanks to all of you for helping me to do this.

The next project is to build a ramp so he will be able to breed my doe who is a saanen. Any ideas other than a hay bale?

The real reason I posted this is I can ask when I am in trouble or post and ask your thoughts and I felt that I also wanted to share good news as well. gail

Good luck with your Joshua! I've been without goats for awhile now, and my husband is building me a goat barn for my birthday. The problem, I can't find Alpine or Saanen breeders around here who are willing to sell a doeing. Anyone out there withing reasonable driving distance of Western Arkansas who is willing to sell an Alpine or Saanen, doeling or older? As far as breeding on a ramp is concerned, it seems the hay bale would work just fine. You may need to keep the doe in one place so Joshua doesn't break his neck if she steps away at the last minute.

Good job Gail! We use the milk stand for assisted breedings for our young guys, and with the new tip I just heard about having the does head at the fence of a big old stinky buck, so she won't mind the young guy :) Worked like a charm. Once he get's some age to him, the doe will squat and he will jump :) Vicki

Congrats on the baby, gail! Melinda, try http://www.thriftynickle.com and choose one closest to you, city. "change citys". You can always search all cities for goats, and all the ones across the United States come up. It's a cool site.
