Printing from color negatives

Is there anything I need to know if I am going to make black and white prints from color negatives? Or where can I find more information on doing this?

Kodak has a special paper called Panalure for printing colour negs. Because it is sensitive to all colours, you must expose & develop it in the dark. Consult the Kodak web site for details.

I have done some printing from color negatives on regular B&W paper (Ilford mgIV). Probably because of the orange mask, I generally start at about a 3 1/2 filter. Sort of big, soft grain. Otherwise, the results were OK. If I made a habit of this, I think I would also try Panalure.

Greetings,

I've done both: Panalure & MGIV. IMHO, MGIV works well for the majority of color negs converted to B&W. Panalure is expensive and the surface of the paper is not to my liking. If you want an accurate rendition of the full tonal scale then by all means use Panalure, however MGIV will give a very pleasing print and you can use the fiber based versions of the paper.

Regards,
