Fall arrives any day now and already the leaves are turning in the Homeland. A cool, crisp wind blows in from the north and temperatures start to plummet, or at least recede from their triple digit highs. If the Homeland were in Ohio, we might have to call it football weather and then strut about in ugly clothes showing off our potbellies. Thankfully we don't have to worry about that!

Anyway, it won't be too long until the first snow flies. The sun will appear as a mere cinder, low over the southern horizon at midday. The geese will flock overhead in droves, the eagles will return to the Kaw, and so too must we!

It is time once again to think Late Night with Mook!

Late Night is OK's annual nighttime trail run, held around Christmas each year. It returns for its third running this year, the first Late Night of the new millenium! I don't think I will have to advertise it too strongly... Late Night is an event that sells itself.

Late Night 2000 has been tentatively set for Friday, December 22nd, in the evening, perhaps to start around 5:30-6 pm from the parking lot by the Kaw River on the east side of North Lawrence. The details will be finalized and announced, but now is a time to look at your calendars and clear out this evening!

At this point it would be premature to make any predictions about the availability of bullar. Bullar refreshments have been hinted at in past runnings, but have never actually materialized. That is not to say that bullar will not be available, but simply a ploy to cover ourselves if another bullar deficiency were to occur.

I hope that all who wish to make it can. If there are better dates around the same time of year, email Mook. We may be able to arrange for a date convenient for more people.

A Saturday night would definately be better for me. Of course, I would understand if a person were afraid of running with another person and wanting it to be on a certain night.

Traditionally, the biggest conflicts with Late Night have stemmed from the mens' and womens' KU basketball schedules. There are games on Thursday night (the actual solstice) and Saturday afternoon at 3pm. A Saturday night run would be possible, one should think, but we'd probably have to arrange ahead of time for a Homeland site open for those who would wish to view the game so there would be time to get to the start! Remember, we probably don't want to start too late with the run because the dinner will be pushed back late into the evening.

While in the past there have been accusations made that Late Night is scheduled in an effort to see that certain persons are disadvantaged, this is in fact not the case. In truth, the reason for discussing alterations to the schedule is to maximize Late Night participation.

Big snow in Laramie and the Laramie Range today. Not sure what it means for Late Night, but it could mean something. Best defense? Probably the Tube Snake Boogie.

There is some movement on the Late Night dates. It is now likely that Late Night will be held Saturday, December 23rd.

Speaking of Late Night, is anyone going to Late Night with Roy? It would be a good warmup for the real thing.
