How do you identify a Canon lens case for your lens?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

Hi,

I have a couple of Canon lens cases that I picked up extremely cheap at a camera show. They were in excellent condition and I couldn't pass them up. However I have not been able to identify which lenses they were made for. They have single letter designations on the bottom of the each case. A, B, C, and D. I am thinking that they may be for lenses with the original FD mount, not the New FD mount. Can anyone point me in the right direction to identify what I have. I believe one of them is for the 100mm Macro and another is for the 50mm Macro, but the other two, I don't know. Thanks.

Bobby, The lens cases usually would fit several lenses. I have some old Canon literature that would likely unravel the mystery for you. Of course, I need to find it first!! It's likely that most of the 24mm through 50mm lenses would all use the same case. There were dedicated cases for special lenses. One I have is for the 500mm F-8 mirror lens. Bill

I'm guessing, but I think these are older than FD, maybe FL or R cases. My mid-1980's FD brochures indicate the "LH" series hard cases, such as the LH-C19 that fits the 200/2.8 My example of that case is stamped with the full number on the bottom. I've seen some brown leather cases on eBay from the 60's.

Indicated case for the New FD 100 Macro is LH-B15 and the 50 Macro uses LH-C10.

I just looked at my Canon literature collection, and the only thing I could find with that info was a lens specification sheet. And it is for New FD lenses and the cases are different. All the cases listed are LH series cases.

I am sure that there is similar publication for the Old FD lenses, which are probably the ones for the single letter cases.

But basically, if they fit without much slop, they are fine.

Case A is for Rangefinder lenses 25mm f/3.5, 28mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2 and 35mm f/1.5 Case B is for Rangefinder lenses 50mm f/1.8 and f/1.4 Case C is for FL lenses 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 55mm. Case D is Rangefinder 85mm f/1.8 and FL85 f/1.8.

There were also cases E, F, G AND H for other Rangefinder or FL lenses.

Watch the info in the Canon Compendium. There are LOTS of errors.

I would like to know the correct case for my 35-105 3.5 Canon lens.

Thank you D. Ray
