Greenville Municipal Authority Superintendent Robert Munch has resigned after 1 year and nine months on the job.

Tuesday night the authority board accepted his resignation, effective Oct. 20.

Munch said he resigned his $52,000-a-year post because he received a better paying job in the private sector. He said he was "not at liberty to say" what his new position will be.

At the water authority, "we got the job done that needed to be done. It just took time to do it. You will find that in any political arena," he said.

Munch took over at a time when the authority was plagued with water-quality complaints. This year, the authority again endured the publics wrath over its failure to prepare water and sewer bills for timely mailing. The authority has blamed the delay on computer software.

But all in all, "we had a good run. We got a lot done," Munch said.

"We got water quality ready to meet standards in the next couple of years, instead of always having to catch up. We have a lot better reputation with the DEP (state Department of Environmental Protection)," Munch said.

As Munch is leaving, the authority engineer and DEP are reviewing plans for a major upgrade that will increase water pressure in the southeastern portion of the borough.
