well I hope you are right that this weather is not a hint of this winter...we have had hard freezes the last several nights-lows in the low 20's even teens in a few places, and we are in sw Missouri where it is usually mild-even the average temp in January is above freezing here!Enjoy the snow-it sure must be pretty! We don't get much snow here cmpared to where we used to be (Chicago), but it has felt like it!
good night for a cuppa cocoa, snuggled up in a blanket in front of the fire with a ggod book-or a hubby! Enjoy!
Peace and blessings, Sarah
Ps...got the new issue today-that'll be my reading material tonight!

It has been in the low 40's here in central Florida inth mornings and evenings. Unseasonable cold for this time of year. Afternoon temps are high 60's, I can live with that nice weather to work in.

Everyone east of Utah watch out. It is really raining here with snow forcast for the higher elevations. The weather has been chilly but nice since that freak snow we had a few weeks ago. The wood stove is warm and the scent is mixing with the grape juice I'm making and a great CD is on. A lovely day. Enjoy your snow Patty.

Patty, we had that cold spell here in Wisconsin over the weekend, as as so often happens, it has now moved out East. It is now getting up into the upper 50's and headed for the 60's, so in a few days, you'll have that moving in too, most likely. Does that help cheer you up?
-- Joy Froelich (dragnfly@chorus.net), October 10, 2000.
Yes they are calling for it to be in the high 50's tommorrow, go figure ? I'm not surprised that we have a killer cold .Hubby's at school but I do have coco , but I don't think I should bring the goat in {thats her name } .Maybe some hot cider .No countryside yet STEVE .I should be knitting .Well warm up everyone.

I guess we need to resign ourselves to Autumn. We had a dusting of snow yesterday and a hard freeze two nights ago. Stay warm. From your friend in WV.....

Patty, We have had 2 hard frosts here in South East Kansas! We usually do not have that until around Halloween, when it always gets cold and nasty. so much for global warning huh? I have a bad feeling about this winter and better have plenty of hay and feed on hand. We get blizzards here too but it has been years since the last one. Sure glad I have my long johns and sweats and this huge comforter. Looks like I might actually need them. And I am not even winterized yet and have baby chicks in the hen house and the back porch. Bummer!

I'M NOT READY! We didn't have a summer this year with all the rain. Patty, you've got to take extra Vit C and Echanacia to get rid of that cold and keep the next one away. Even my Mother who never listens to me swears by it now.

Ah yes, Alabama! Sooooooooooo happy to be here.......

It was snowing here in central Maine until noon today! I was shocked when I realized it was a plow truck waking me up. Unbelievable! My kids even made a snowman. Everything was melted by 5pm except for the bottom of the snowman, which was done in by the dog. Good news: I just may be getting that wood stove in case of power outages! Hubby is actually speculating about where to put it.

Patty,The year we moved from western NY to here in VA we moved in early December. I recall that Halloween that there was a lot of snow on the ground and the kids returned home soaked from snow! In fact we had not put snow tires on the car and could barely get up the hill to our house, the road was covered. I also remember early snows when i was a kid, buit this particular yr that snow stuck! Then it melted the next day and got cold. But.... when we returned from MD where I took my job, there were reports of Lake effect snow off of lake Erie that was due to hit the Pittsburg, PA area. I was up at 5:30 that morning... the earliest I had awoken in yrs and figured we had better beat feet home. that was Nov 19th 1993, then a few weeks later the snow hit, the morning after we left... it snowed so much... almost as much as the infamous Blizzard of 1977! Our neighbor who was caretaking our house took a pic of the snow... it measured 22' that winter. Even here in VA it snowed a lot, more ice than snow. I hope we have a decent winter here.... i am sooo tired of making up snow days for school. I teach... and its hard on the kids too. soooo.... ya never know... it might be. there have been sign in mother nature indicating a cold winter here. i have not spoken to relatives from home yet to get the recent weather for western NYS but I can imagine!

WOW! After a cool wet summer, we finally have warm sunshine. Our neighborhood has been trailriding every day, some wearing tank tops. We, and our horses, are enjoying the company, the warmth and the beautiful fall scenery. We will be going everyday until the rainy season starts. Here in the Olympics, people know to make play when the sun shines. We'll do our work in the rain.
There is an amanita mushroom on my lawn the size of a frisbee. Red with yellow dots. My daughter calls them storybook mushrooms. Must be time to go searching for the yummy fungi.

Patty Your snow must be nice to see, I moved to Phoenix Az 7 yrs ago from Virginia and havent seen snow since. The last 3 days we have had 75-80 in the daytime that is pretty much where we will stay most of the winter. The only thing I dont miss about snow is driving in it.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, we had snow off and on all day here in the NW corner of Ohio. Snowed Sunday night too. Nothing stuck to the ground though. Wonder if this is beginning of a bad winter?

HI PATTY. WE LIVE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK ON A SMALL FAMILY FARM. WHEN IT STARTED SNOWING ON COLUMBUS DAY I WAS SO HAPPY, I REMINDED OUR GRANDKIDS (THEY LIVE WITH US ONLY 3 OUT OF 17) THAT I USED TO MAKE A SNOWBALL WITH THE FIRST SNOWFALL ANDFREEZE IT. THEN I'D KEEP IT UNTIL SUMMER HIT, HOWEVER, MY HUSBANS WHO'S FROM FLORIDA WASN'T LAUGHING. HE'S AFULL TIME COLLEGE STUDENT AND DOESN'T LIKE TO DRIVE IN SNOW. OUR GOATS WEREN'T HAPPY WITH IT EITHER. I HAVE A FEELING ABOUT THIS WINTER. WE HAVEN'T WINTERIZED YET. PRISCILLA

The weather report is so benign and refreshing compared to the Mideast at the moment...Well, folks, here in New Mexico, Edgewood to be exact (the vortex of weather), where we have beautiful fall weather and golden trees, and just when we hunker down to a cup o'tea by the fire, we get slammed with 8-10" of snow in October. We haven't had signnificant moisture for, oh, a couple of years now... and now that the big Balloon Fiesta is here, the whole state is soaked. Since I don't care about balloons, that's ok with me. But since I shear my goats this Satuday, I hope it gives me just a little break! I came home from the Taos Wool Festival this past weekend to find Edgewood totally encased in ICE, complete with bent & broken trees, and flowering plants frozen in time. Surprise! "HELLO: THIS IS MOTHER NATURE... YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL! Just kidding!... now back to your usual beautiful weather..." dh in nm

It has been GORGEOUS in upstate NY the last few days. 70's yesterday and today!!!!!!!! Gotta love it after this crappy summer. You are right this is mundane compared to the mideast but this is where I am (Thank God) and so we have things to complain about, things to laugh about, things to cry about and things to worry about. Of course I do agree to keep it in perspective.
