Dear Shelly,

As a goat buyer for many years, I found the best fruit cake in Texas. Comes from the Collin Street Bakery, 401 W 7th Street, in Corsicana, Texas. They only sell the fruit cake at the bakery or by mail. I would pull up with a trailer load of goats on my way to a goat sale in New Holland, PA. We would run in and get a couple of tins of the "Deluxe".

Now that I am retired, I call..1-800-248-3366 and have several sent to family and friends around the world.

At HOME, THIS IS A DRY DUMP CAKE..NO MIXING

1- 20 oz can pineapple (crushed) 1 -20 oz can cherry pie filling (any fruit pie filling) 1 -regular yellow cake mix (favorite) 1 -4oz package nuts of choice (English or black walnut, pecans etc.) 1 -stick or 1/4 pound of butter, or margarine cut in pats or by spoonful if using tub margarine. USE 12 1/2 inch by 8 inch cake pan

Pour pineapple in bottom of pan, spread evenly Pour cherry pie, (peach) filling in on top of pineapple, spread evenly Pour cake mix DRY powder all over fruit and spread evenly. Place butter or oleo pats on top of cake mix. They will melt and run all over mix & fruit will bubble to top. Add nuts evenly across top.

Place in preheated oven 350 degrees for approximately 1 hour. Check often after 45 minutes to see if getting too brown.

Remove from oven , call ME when done JR

JR, Is the goat sale in PA worth driving to from TX? What kind of goats and prices?

Anne, I saw the title of this thread, and thought "not ANOTHER political thread!". Good one!

btw, I am one of those few that actually like fruitcake...

Dear Anne. Thank you, your reply was so kind and sweet, giving me a moment in time which I must share with the folks and members of the Forum..President? Teamsters Union. Been there, done that, went in office with integrity and left office with integrity intact!

Dear Terri, The market owner is retired and city zoning pressure etc. Location for big super mall and so forth. I am in the Midwest, wifes family in PA, trips of business and pleasure.

Dear Sheepish, Bake the cake!! If you love fruit cake then I have to love you!!

Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us and we are his, we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. PSALM: 100:03 Life is such a precious gift. so is the magic of compounding. And compounding can be the achievement of many things and in many ways.. It's hard to imagine an infant at birth becoming a full grown adult, or a tiny seedling becoming a mature shade tree. Yet, with good care, patience and the passing of time, the miracle of growth unfolds.

Thus, the magic of compounding, even the smallest of ventures, over a long period of time can lead to unbelievable wealth. And wealth and/or success is many different things and ideals to all creatures.

Unfortunately, that lesson takes a life time to learn for most people.. That's why it's a shame we only have one chance at life! Many folks would do differently the second time around I'm sure.

Rule One, the first and most important is the plan. Plan the work and work the plan. There will be many rules to follow in your plan. The Second Rule, but the least followed by people is keeping records, records of cost. To keep a record of cost one must know how the "Bits and Pieces" make a dollar. Very few people know how our money system really works. Those who do make millions every day. Johnny took the pony, Johnny took the collar! Make him pay! Two bits, Four bits, Six bits, a Dollar! that is a ditty which was often heard in both the class room and on the play grounds as children completed in games such as "Hopscotch" or "Skip the Rope" and other games of rhythm and chant. This was a part of the 3'R's, the art of learning in class room and at play.

Pieces of Eight, The big round silver dollar which was cut into eight pieces of silver because of a lack of coinage to make change. A "bit" is 12.5 cents and Two Bits equals a Quarter. Now, we know there are 100 cents in the dollar and we use that. However, so many today hold the penny in contempt. I find them every where. I pick them up, I use them and I plant them to grow. At one time our money system used MILLS. Ten (10) mills equals one penny.

However, millions and millions of dollars are made daily in the real world. The folks doing this not only have the knowledge of "Bits, Pieces and Mills" ; They also have the understanding of the power of multiplication and compounding. All this is done with Points! Example: With points, the dollar is now divided into 64 points. Wow, not 64 cents, but 64 points. So, 1 1/8 (one an one-eight th) is $1.125. 1/64 points is .0156 cents. Not so long ago, the dollar was only counted 1/32 increments. Strange, huh?

Some time ago a man wrote to me. I lost his name and address, although he sent a SASE. I have felt bad about not returning his letter. The question he asked was, "How can you make money with goats?" It really depends on the individual and what their plan is. Here is a real example of one way I am making money with goats. I repeat, making money, making: an ongoing project that does not stop with a sale of goats. Have a plan and follow the plan.

The Last year of buying and selling, I only sold 127 goats. The average price was $86.00 per head. Before deducting the average cost of $23.00 per head, the $11.00 per head for transporting and the $4.80 per head avg. of sale cost I had $10,922. Minus $4,927.60 of cost, my gain equals $5,994.40. To plant this seed, I took the money and purchased(3) three $2,000.00 CD's paying 6.9% annually to mature in two years at $6,856.57. I am sure you know a CD is a Certificate of Deposit. (This is a debt security issued by a financial institution, a bank or savings and loan, with a stated date of maturity and interest rate.) In other words, this bank has borrowed $6,000.00 dollars from me. I can assure you if I had ask for a loan from this bank for $3,000.00 to buy 127 goats they would of asked for a mortgage on the farm. Why, because a bank does not understand goat marketing? Could be.

The Magic Rule of 72: A rule of thumb formula to find the length of time needed for an investment to double or the interest rate needed to double an investment in a given number of years when the interest is being compounded. Example: 72 divided by an interest rate of nine percent equal eight years to double. 72 divided by 10 years equals 7.2 percent, so, 7.2 percent interest is needed to double the investment in ten years so you can see it can work both ways.

I could tell you of my picking up aluminum cans and by the power of multiplication and compounding into a Hereford herd of 35 brood cows and one beautiful bull. Some other time perhaps.

Shelley,

Sorry if my little joke turned this into an odd thread. I hope you find a happy fruitcake recipe.

Hope you enjoy them.

Shelly, is that a light colored fruit cake with a lemon flavor? Seems like I may have seen the recipe somewhere. Give me a hint. If I don't have it, I probably have something similar. I know I have a really good Fannie Farmer Dark Fruitcake recipe that I think is pretty close to the recipe used by the bakery at Corsicana, TX.
