Hi~ Hubby asked me to find sources of info. for a college paper he's writing. His topic: growing our own food...he wants reasons why, like who owns all the food companies (you should see Phillip Morris' list!),chemical contaminents (sp?), shortages, how it used to be...etc. The possibilties are endless. Please send websites/info ASAP. ~Thanks~

Tammy, check out the magazine Organic Gardening. They always have excellent articles and resources. Most libraries have a subscription so that you can read back issues. They're also online, but of course they don't have the entire magazine online every month. In the Sept/Oct 2000 issue there was a SUPERB article by Donella Meadows on feeding the world with organic farming. It is not online in it's entirety, but here is a short version:

Tammy, I am working on it but in the meantime I have some answers for Cher. Philip Morris does own Kraft, but you know what brands names Kraft owns: Here is the list, Jello, Kool Aid, Maxwell House, Oscar Meyer, Post Cereals. Philip Morris also owns Miller Brewing Co. and is the process of purching Nabisco (Chip Ahoy, Oreo, Ritz Cracker) About 40% of Philip Morris sales comes from food and beer sales. I receive this information from a search on Hoovers on-line. Probably more than you would care to you but Philip Morris is a really big company.

I'm trying to find out who owns General Mills (who recently bought out Cascadian Farms, an organic food producer -- ARGGH!). Apparently Philip Morris had GM at one time, but I don't think they do any more. If anyone knows, please email me, or post it, please. Thx!

Hi Joy, Was not going to respond but you sure know you HTML. Wish I do could that. I know that General Mills is not owned by anyone at this time but there is a deal in the making with Kellogg's. (Public Knowledge) I did read the about how General Mill purchased Cascadian Foods back a few a months ago. If you are having trouble finding information on the subject, the company is offically called "Small Planet Foods" I used www.google.com as a search engine. Take Care
