Thank You!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread |
Just want to let you people know what a great job you do to keep us informed of key (infrastructure) events in the world. I've lurked since prior to Y2K, thinking the rollover would yield many problems. It didn't; however, it is my belief that Y2K was simply the wake-up call of a greater disaster to come, precipitated by much more than computer problems. Methinks we are the edge of such events. Thanks to all of you!

thinking the rollover would yield many problems. It didn'tI guess that would depend on what you were
expecting. There have been over 2000 reported
problems this year alone affecting millions
of people. If the oil shortage turns out to
be Y2K related change that to billions of
people. In many communities they have still not been
able to crawl out of the chaos that hit when
their updated systems failed to save them, even
at this late date. Personally I am suprised at
the tenacity of the problem. If reported problems are only the "tip of the
iceberg", then this could be the number one
under-reported event of the year. This is
implied by the fact that almost all of the
current reports are situations that have
existed since January and are just coming
to the surface now, 11 months after the
roll-over.

I guess that would depend on what you were expecting.I'm with you, spider. I wasn't too caught-up in the "everything will happen at rollover" scenario, but I was concerned that we would see a slow deterioration triggered by ongoing events. Time will tell.
