Was it you, or was it FutureShock, who asked if my local coffee vendor will do mail order? They roast the coffee themselves and it's excellent. I'm not sure how often they roast, but I have yet to get a stale bag.

Shame that Starbucks has started dark-roasting most of their stuff.

I am not a coffee snob, but I live near a town filled with them {less than 80,000 folks}. I know of 3 places in town that roast daily [there may be more]. One delivers fresh roasted coffee [about 14 different beans] to a local grocer on a daily basis.

I buy this stuff because it is better, not because I am a coffee snob *<)))

It's call "O'Henry's." The original shop is in downtown Homewood (in the little Yuppie section down on 18th street -- if your friends are from here, they'll know what I'm talking about[g]; there are all sorts of little foo-foo dress and knick knack shops in that area).

I had their Kenyan AA this morning; it was outstanding. :)

I'm not a snob, either; I just like good coffee. In the spirit of the Wine Slob, who tells people how to find decent wine for under $20, I don't just tell people about the fancy fresh-roasted stuff, I like trying the supermarket blends from time to time, just to see if they've learned anything yet.

General impression: of all that I've tried, Folger's comes the closest to having their act together. Their Columbian is drinkable, and their Gourmet Supreme is surprisingly good.

Just the other day, I ran across a HOUSE BRAND at Winn Dixie that comes in whole bean form; it's surprisingly good. I buy it for my friends at the station because it's only $3.50 a bag(!).

(It's called "better coffee on the cheap[g]").
