How come everytime the UK has a good show on they always screw it up with a US version? They did the same thing with Beyond 2000. Bring back the UK people and host or I'm not watching! If Americans want to be in the challenge then go to the UK.

I'm afraid I have to agree with M. Bailey, the US versions always mess with the mix, and usually always to the detriment of the show. I'm now watching the 1/11/01 TLC show, how convenient to find the unblemished Olds and the cush Beetle just outside the shop door, just lucky I guess. Oh-oh the other team just found exactly what they were looking too, a sweet 1000 cc bike, I bet they are about to find some wonderful tubing for their rail job in a couple of minutes as well. Like Mr. Bailey said...dump the US version, and as far as the other reply to Bailey's post....'naf off you yank wanker!!!

Well, I think the US version has to be different because it is for a Different type of people. Take British comedy for example. I watch it on PBS and I dont think it is one bit funny. Thats because it is meant for a different culture.

I would think that TLC was surprised by the popularity of the show in the US and is trying to capitalize on it. What someone failed to realize is that some of us (most of us, perhaps) liked it *because* it was British, not in spite of the fact.

The US version lacks wit. Or is it just the host? I can't tell...

By the way, the "U.S. version" of the show is still shot in Britain and the same sets are used. I keep reading at this site how people think that they changed sites to somewhere in California. All they did was change the male host and some other tweaking for an American audience. Granted, both weren't terrific ideas but nevertheless the junkyard site is the same.

I LOVED the show last season... this season.. hmmm WHAT is the reason for the americanization... sigh. You shouldn't have bodged the perfectly running engine that was Junkyard Wars. We Americans always ruin tv programs don't we... or shall I say the networks and the suits who tend to make all the poor decisions will always tend to make JUNK out of a well running machine. Have a cup of tea and remember what made it a magical show.

Being a damn proud Canadian I can hack on the UK and the USA. I would like to say that the show was perfect in the UK. If it wasn't great why were you Americans watching it? I think it should stay in the UK under its original name, "Junkyard Wars". But I think a NORTH AMERICAN version should be made. Its a great show and I'd have a blast competing in it. So everyone quit being so bitchy!

I agree that the American version is a 'buggerd and bastardized' attempt at copying the Brits. The male host on the American version is tooo MTV frat boy. I've also noticed the ability for these bodgers to find just about anything they need in those junkyards. I've spent a fair amount of time in enough junk yards to wonder just how many PROPELLERS you'd find laying about, and let's not even go into the 'steam engine' thing.

Sorry Aaron M. Brown, I'm a God fearing, Southern born and raised 100% American. This country screws up almost everything it touches or tries to change. I've already lost one British show I loved to watch and is no longer on TV in my area and I don't want to loose another one. The British have great humor without foul language. I've got three young children and the US shows don't know how to be funny without cussing. So back off!

I for one want to apologize to anyone who think I want to stop production on either show. I simply can not and will not accept someone slaming on any atemped to increse the size of the audince. This is one of the best shows on tv, it's a clean,good,funny look at the human inginity and compitition!

I really don't know what people are whinging on about. Both shows are made by the same production team, using the same music, and same graphics, and for this year at least its in the same junkyard. Or as Brits would know it - "Scrapheap".

I'm a Brit, now living in the US, and I was DELIGHTED to discover the new Brit series on TLC, and subsequently even more delighted when I got more of the same with the US series. Only thing different are the Amercian accents, and George instead of Robert. Personally George seems Ok, and his quirky noises are no more quirky than the noises and faces made by Robert in Scrapheap and Red Dwarf.

It's simple, I cannot see any discernable difference between the style of the two shows, and I am enjoying the challenges as they are. I see Bowser Munson even got a mention in the closing moments of the US Powerboat episode!

What happens when they go to CA. Who knows. Wait and see. RELAX and enjoy the shows.

I really cant figure out why everyone is so passionate about this!?!? Its a TV show!! Isnt it all about the teams and how they solve the problem at hand? Why even worry about the host? I watch the show every week and enjoy it very much. I barely even noticed the host switch and was just happy to see the show had been a success and will be continuing for another season. Its a great idea, and a great show, and besides its not like we (the Americans) changed the show, the British did, so why blame it on the Americans....we didnt fly over there and say "You better Americanize this show or we will take over your country and rename it Texas" did we? So bottom line.....Americans, enjoy the show and respect that it is a British idea and a damn good one....Brits, stop yelling at the americans and send Mr.Bean over to the production company to find out why they sold out!!!

The US version was shot in East London in the same Junkyard. As far as a US Junk yard, I don't know. Production costs would be much bigger in the US, insurance is a problem. Brits are fascinating to us US folks and I think it would suffer.

I just started watching the shows and love them. I was dissappointed to see the other male host not on. Americans find british shows to be very entertaining, unfortunately when americans get hold of british shows they get too comercialized and budgety and usually flop. I hope they keep the british version. As for people complaining about how they find the items they need. The last time I went to the scrap yard near my house, someone junked a whole boat. You wouldn't believe what people get rid of. As a note My grandfather took an alternator off a car and put it on a bedframe with wheels, my uncle was pulled over by the police, they said he was going 30 mph with it and that was about 40 years ago. So people tinkering with junk isn't new. As long as there is junk you'll find someone trying to utilize it. By the way i am american, and I hope the show lasts.

I personally love the show!!!! From Britain or the US or Timbucktwo makes no difference to me. I would love to see both shows. The real entertainment here is in the building of the machines, not the host or location!!! & I say the more the better. I love the both old & new shows . I just wish TLC would rerun all the old shows that we missed. This has to be the best Show on TV. So quit complaining people & just watch it.

uhh.... the show is good wether or not its made by brits. but i really like the US version better, for 2 reasons. 1) i can understand what the American's say. 2) im tired of these wimpy small ass mini's and tired of the use of land rovers. i mean are those the only cars that the english have or something? i remember the first of the American versions that i saw was the drag racing one and they pulled out a V8 out of an American car. hell i knew it was going to be good.

Damn straight!

I like the variation in construction and materials the American teams bring to the show. Not to mention that in addition to the British eps with Robert Llewellen this year, we get twice as many eps because of the American portion of the newly-expanded show! It's a win-win situation for everybody. The Brits who don't like the U.S. version? Well, don't watch and wait for the Brit eps to air. Some people just keeps seeing a glass as half empty when it's really half full.
