Support checks in mail after FOC computer glitch fixed

Sunday, January 14, 2001

The Genesee County Friend of the Court expected to begin sending child support checks Saturday after restoring records that dropped off the computer system last week.

Friend of the Court Jennie E. Barkey said the agency would work through the weekend to process about 6,000 payments, many of which were delayed by the snafu.

The computer problem surfaced Friday while data processing workers were running year-end programs.

About a million records involving thousands of cases dropped off the system, preventing the office from processing payments.

County officials said it was the first time they encountered the problem, which appeared to be associated with year-end tasks being done by data processing workers.

The FOC collects about $80 million per year in child support.
