Heard this on NPR's call-in show The People's Pharmacy. For dry, itchy skin & "hot spots" on dogs, boil oatmeal with orange rind. Strain it and cool this "lotion". After bathing the dog, apply the warm lotion and wrap the dog in a warm towel. The woman who called in with this swears that after a few such treatments, her dog was begging for baths.

Sam, I heard that show too, Saturday morning, I still prefer my garlic, kelp, nutritional yeast, and corn oil remedy, you addit to their food, and it helps ALL critters with all types of skin and coat and hoof problems, also regrows hair and fur, if only it regrew human hair, vet say's I'd be rich!!!!

Our Teddy (who passed away 2 weeks ago after 13 wonderful years)had this problem. Four years ago the groomer told us German Shepherds tended to have this problem and suggested giving him a better food. We changed from Purina chow to Purina one, and the problem never come back.

Rick, sorry to here about the loss of your Teddy. We went through that a few months back and no matter how much you know it is coming there is just no getting ready for that sorrow of losing a close pet.God Bless.

Hogs normally have dry skin. Since mine's a pet, I feed him Clovite. It keeps his skin supple. Same for a dog with dry skin. The other dog eats the same brand of food, but doesn't have the problem. Clovite has done a much better job than corn oil.
