CAN SOMEONE TELL ME THE ROUTE OF THE TRAIN THAT TOOK PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT'S BODY FROM WARM SPRINGS,GA TO WASHINGTON,DC IN 1945. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT IT WAS MOSTLY ON TRACKS OWNED BY SOUTHERN RAILWAY.

The FDR Funeral train took place in April 1945 and covered Southern trackage from Warm Springs to Alexandria,Va, where the Southern had trackage rights over the Washington Terminal, RF&P, and Pennsylvania Railroad's tracks took over. The Southern Railway Ps-4 preserved in the Smithsonian, the 1401, pulled the funeral train from Greenville, South Carolina to Salisbury, North Carolina. The only special marking it had on the train was a american flag from the Greenville engine house. That should help you out some.

I was a young boy living in Converse, South Carolina (six miles from Spartanburg, when FDR died. Neighbors gathered in our back yard to watch the Train carrying FDR's body go by. It was an event I will always remember.
