Just got my new 24 mm Elmarit in...greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
Lovely piece of glass, now let's see what it can do.Thanks to all for the answers to my query regarding the 24 mm and the 21 mm. After due consideration I think I'm better off with the 24 because that's just the way I see things... slightly exaggerated. The 21 would have been a challenge compositionally and would have put me too close to the subject (if the subject happens to be a person). Later I will augment with the Cosina 15 mm but I'm dying to take the 24 out for its first in a long line of sessions.
Thanks for the clarification,
John

John,This will be my next Leica lens, so I am looking forward to your honest reporting on this lens... warts and all.

Al,You mentioned the gap interval for my outfit a while back. Well its now 24, 35, 75. When I get enough clams again I'll complete with a 50 (either a Summicron or a Noctilux) but I suspect that it will be a Cron as I am looking for maximum portability of the outfit (although intellectual curiosity does flourish for the Noctilux). Too bad there's no room in my bag for it!
Cheers,
John

John,The 24 Elmarit ASPH is an excellent lens and you will enjoy using it. The focal gap between your outfit, 24-35-75, is well spaced, IMHO. I always carry this combination with one or two M bodies when traveling. While the Noctilux is a special piece of glass, it got left behind every trip due to its weight and limited applications, perhaps.
Please let us know how you like the 24 ASPH.
Cheers,

Magnificent lens. My setup is 24/35 soon to be 24/35/90. The 35 always seems to me to handle 50 situations well enough, the 90 goes farther enough to be worth the trouble of carting around as well.Rob.

I heard you talking about the 50 īcron; I end up with a little collection of 50/2Mīs, a dual range, a pice of the latest version (with an included hood), and the one before it with the same optical formula (suposed), I love the D.R, but is heavy and slow compared to the very last version, and the one with the focusing tab seems great idea but is hard to move so not very fast as a focusing tab should be,but the hood in this version is "safer" than the new one; any way for me until now the latest version is the most comfortable and fast, yes faster to use. Since it is not my main using lens (35 is) feel fine to have something diferent to focus from than tabs (that I like). After all Leitz offer us so many options that is a joy isnīt it!
