Help me buy a sports bra!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Xeney : One Thread

Hi folks. I am in the throes of a health kick, having recently hired a personal trainer and working out regularly.

I've progressed from brisk walking into jogging now, and find that I lack the, um, support, that I need.

Short of duct taping the girls down while I work out, what kinds of sports bras have worked for you? Another caveat about me: I'm a cheap woman, too, so the less expensive the better. But if it means that I can buy a comfortable, supportive sports bra for a bit more moolah, well, I'll just have to suck it up, won't I? :) Thanks in advance. -Claire

Well, you didn't mention what you're girls *need*, but there's one I like, and it's from CHampion

They're not cheap, but you can find it for less than elsewhere at barenecessities.com

Well, I need support, and lots of it. My *girls* aren't small, they like to flop when I'm jogging, and boy, it really does hurt. I have a sports bra now, but a cheapie WalMart "good-for-anything-but-jogging" type of sports bra. I want to be able to jog comfortably, stopping because I'm out of breath, not because I've got black eyes. Ahem.

I'll go check that link out - thanks Nita.

I, too, love my Champion sports bras--the model I wear isn't underwire, though, it's model #072. I run daily, and my C-cup boobs don't budge in them.

Title 9 Sports also has a pretty good online store for finding good sports bras.

I don't have a favorite brand, but I'm a big fan of synthetic materials like polypropylene rather than cotton. They wick moisture away so you don't get soaked in sweat. I actually bought a couple of bras in the long underwear section of a camping store, and they're great.

You might find some more helpful info over here, because we discussed this topic a year ago. I even wrote an entire entry about shopping for sports bras.

(That was not a call to move the discussion to the old topic; that doesn't work very well on Greenspun, and this is all temporary, anyway. Carry on.)

I second the mention of Title 9 - I've gotten all of my sports bras from them in the last few years. They have a great return policy - they once shipped me the wrong bra and on the phone said they'd ship the right one out even before I'd sent them back the wrong one.

Anyway, I'm a 38C and prefer underwire, and have found their cross in the back underwire bra wonderful - holds me up and very tightly to the chest without flattening me. They have a wide selection of bras - especially of the non-pullover type. I can't wear the pullover ones because I end up with one single boob that hurts as it bounces up and down. They do have some very seriously compressive pullover ones too. Most of the bras are in the $30-35 range, but I've had one for two years and it's still going strong (even if a bit dingy) so it's been worth it.

I haven't found a sports bra that I like either. My gals are pretty "out there" and I normally wear an underwire. What I found that works for me during high activity is to wear one of my sturdy underwires and then another bra over that. Doesn't seem to matter too much if the second bra is an underwire or not. It does matter that they are not identical. I think by using 2 bras they cancel out each other's floppiness.

I hope this helps.

Hey, so I've got some knockers, myself, and appreciate the speedo sports bras. the one I have is an underwire, and it's huge, and supportive - I wear it for tae kwon do with the running and jumping and haven't had a problem at all. And it hasn't worn out yet, either! Plus it's made of some kind of thick material that feels very sturdy by itself, so I'm convinced by the material it must work well.

I'm not sure if they still make them, but in my high school cheerleading days I was a fan of the Champion JogBra. I'm not a small girl by any means, and the JogBra did an admirable job of holding things down. It didn't have underwire, and I think they ran about $30.

Come and shop at www.lessbonce.com. I've never had a customer who hasn't left satisfied - with a bra that does what it should!
