Lil Dumplin Left Me!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Now that I've gotten your attention---well, yes-she DID leave me last weekend. In fact I took'r where she wanted to go and just left'r there in Cincy-natty, OHIO! Rode the bus home all by myself with exceptions of course. The bus had several other folks on it too, I rekon. They just weren't go'n where I was go'n. While sett'n in the bus station wait'n to leave was just watch'n the other people wait'n for there buses too. Many different kinds of people, black, white, African, Japanese, American Indian and even an Indian from across the pond. All of us were in the same place wait'n on the same thing. Not much difference in the whole lot except a world of difference. Different backgrounds, faiths, customs, jobs, families and on and on and on. We still shared a long list of things too. All of us were tired and even quiet. When we boarded the bus you could hear a pin drop once we got to roll'n. I guess most all passengers were asleep. Why, I even napped just a little too. Purty nice goi'n down the interstate and not even worry'n about the drivin. Lil Dumpllin was soon on her own--I was too. Sure did miss'r even before I left'r there at the bus station! Didn't know what I'd have for breakfast next morning and didn't really care. Suppose SPAM would be out of the question--with eggs of course. I was on the bus for about 4 hours and in some ways it seemed like a year! Didn't eat, drink anything while on there. Oldest son and his faimily pick'd me up in Evansville, Indians and brought me home. I got to rassle with my llittle grandson some before he "conked out" and went to sleep. Sure was a long day but quite knowledgable and I rather enjoyed it. The old house sure was empty and lonesome with my life's partner gone. I can't imagine not havin her around-lost thru death or divorce. Oh BTW-she was home thursday nite! She took a new job and was training last week and this coming week. I'll get to go with'r when I want, after she's on her own. Her Job? Traveling X-Ray tech for bone density exams. She'll be home each nite but about 4 in a month. I'll go with'r those days! Ain't eat'n no more SPAM for breakfast anymore!!!! We each had our cell phones and everytime I got the chance I'd call'r. Even old hillbillys' have some modern things to play with--for all ya'll that think "What's this old duffer doin with a cell phone"!!! "Thank you Lord for sending me this lovely lady to spend my life with"! Matt.24:44

I know the feeling. when Lynn goes off for a few days, I enjoy things I can't do like your Spam breakfast (BTW be careful mixing hot spam with milk or cheese products. when it hits bottom , itll make "wind" that make the stockyards smell like a tropical breeze), but its still great getting her home.

It was just about a year ago that I went to Montana on a bus to visit a friend and her family, never again, nope, not even, NO!. It was 42 hours from our door to hers, that and lost luggage, ugh!!!, Oh but the scenery was beautiful, I couldn' wait to get to North Dakota, nothing but land and sky. The highlight of the trip. But leaving Gary for 10 days was too much. The whole trip was disappointing-escept for the scenery-and eating mule deer, which isn't supposed to be good, I hear, but they have a secret way of fixing it, Gary wore out the PacMan game, and ate a lot of eggs. Even though I had a phone card, the phone bill was sky high. Gary said he felt lost without me, and that's how I felt without him. Just too hard.

I had a bus ride last year myself. While waiting in the station for departure, I noticed a rather young fellow pacing back and forth. Eventually I noticed that he was pacing in an are of about 4 feet by 6 feet. My conclusion was, that would have been the size of a jail cell, so had an uneasy feeling when we both boarded the same bus.The bus was loaded so I had a seat mate, uh, someone to sit beside that is. She seemed to be a nice young lady. During the trip however, I learned that she had been in prison, and couldn't wait to get back home to get high. So much for my opinions being of value. Both her father and mother were currently in prison, and for most of her life she had lived with her grandmother. I still think that she has potential, and only wish that she could be raised or rather live in a "Countryside" environment away from her norm. Maybe it's true, "Birds of a feather, flock together."

Cindy, I'm just curious where did you hear mule deer wasn't good? That's all we eat except for chicken and some pork. The only special way of fixing it is when you're game dressing it, keep it clean and get it cooled, then hang and age it for a week. We eat it just like beef, in fact beef tastes funny to us, oh well it's all in what you get used to I guess. My thinking is deer is deer just like beef is beef. Glad you enjoyed the scenery here, it is beautiful.Blessings, Kelle

Kelle, my friends and their friends said that mule deer is frowned upon. They soaked there's in vinegar and did a few other things to it before they froze it. It was one of the best meals I ever ate. They lived in Coffee Creek but have recently moved to Minnesota.

Notforprofit, your story reminded me of the only time I have ever taken a bus. Back in the early 70's, Greyhound had a deal to "See America". I had an Uncle that lived in California, so a friend, my sister and me thought we would be adventuresome and go out there. All the way on a bus! Were we nuts?! yep. There was a really sleezy looking guy on the bus that kept staring at us. We were sitting at the back of the bus, and one night my sister woke up and found the guy standing right beside my seat! I was asleep, and she said something to him, and he left. Don't remember what town he got off the bus in, but was glad when he did. Needless to say, when we left California to come home, we flew home on an airplane.
