Mold on wet or dry bread

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Bread.com FAQ : One Thread

Which bread molds faster wet or dry bread? I need this answer immediately for my science project. The bread I am experimenting with has not begun to mold yet.

Actually, the bread that molds the best is damp bread. Too dry and the mold can't breath, too wet and the mold drowns. The best mold conditions are as follows: Put the bread it a warm, dark, damp place. Let it be for a few days, checking on it every two days. Hope this helps.

Well, to live, mold needs fresh air, light, and moisture. To grow, I would put your bread in a light place, maybe by a window, and have it be damp, sometimes by putting a slice of apple with the bread, mold will start to grow. If you are experimenting with bread with preservatives, START EARLY, if you are using organic bread, you should start atleast three- four days in advance. Bread with no preservatives molds very quickly.
