Homemade fish'n boat. {Christian Material included]

Back in the early 50's ole jeep and I wanted a fish'n boat an could'nt afford to buy one. Pap didn't have the lumber to build one out of--or at least he would'nt give us any of it--so----! Two hoods from 48 Chevy automobiles-welded together. Long, Wide, deep, BLACK and about as unstable as a kite in a hurricane! STill they worked. Never had a motor, ole jeep and I had whittled a couple oars outta some oak boards. Set on 2 five gallon buckets turned over. We did'nt have it very long ["docked" in our little creek] until a big rain came up and washed the dumb thing away. We never went look'n for it as it wasn't worth dragg'n home. We did find it later while out hunt'n. It lay'd there in that drift for as long as I could remember. I'm sure to make it stable Jesus Himself would've had to been in it to calm the storms of life AND the little creek. Matt.24:44

Ah the good ole days when being poor made people think !! And use what they already had.

When I was little my brother and I wanted to go out in the flat bottom alluminum boat but granny was afraid we'd get hurt. So instead of taking her answer as meaning you can't get in a boat at all we of course thought it meant we couldn't use that particular boat. Well the only thing we had was some old scrap lumber that papa had put under a small barn. We did the best we could to make 'er sea worthy but it is nearly impossible to seal up something made out of dimensional lumber...especially when half the nails were bent over...lol. On our place there was a spot that held water and happened to be at a turn on the trail so it got to be a hole as folks got stuck and unstuck. We decided to try it out there first. We had more fun trying to get that thing to float. Water would come in as fast as we would bail. I haven't thought about that in years and years. Thanks for reminding me and letting me reminisce.
