I've lost the formula for removing skunk odor from a dog. It only had 3 or 4 ingredients. Does anyone out there have it? No, not tomato juice-this dog is way past that stage. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hydrogen Peroxide works my chemist freind at work says any oxidant should work.

I've submitted this before and its in the archives somewhere, probably under dogs, but here it is again. Mix one pint hydrogen peroxide with 1/3 cup baking soda and a squirt of dish detergent. Rub it well on the dog avoiding the eyes, mouth and nose. Rinse well with lukewarm water. Really works well.Kate Henderson

I've used the hydrogen peroxide mixture for quite a while, however, it will alter the color of some dog's coats. My yellow lab cross turned an usual shade of pink--I have no idea how yellow turned pink.

Happened to one of our hunting dogs when I was but a young girl. Daddy parked way off at the end of the grocery store parking lot (dog was in back of the truck, I was sitting in the cab) and hurried into the store. When he came out he was toting 2 grocery sacks of TOMATO JUICE. When we got home, before Mama smelled the dog, he stopped out at the barn and bathed that dog in all the juice, rubbing it into his fur. It didn't hurt his eyes or ears. He was rubbed all over and soaked plum through with that tomato juice. Then he gave him a dip in the water trough for a good rinsing. That dog never went near a skunk again, and even shied away from kitty cats, too!

I can testify that this absolutely works! It may need to be applied more than once, but it takes the odor off the dogs.

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide 1/4 cup of baking soda 1 teaspoon of liquid soap (dishwashing soap)

Wash while mixture is bubbling...rinse off with tap water

If you have a big dog, double or triple the recipe. Make sure the peroxide is fresh, old peroxide will not work as well.

A friend of mine washes her dogs with tomato juice when they've been attacked by a skunk. She swears by it!

You guys have no idea how timely this was for me too.

Our Siberian Husky tangled with a skunk last week. (This was before the coon incident) We never saw the skunk. Didn't have to. We got up that morning and the whole house reeked. The dog is on a run in the back yard. Thank goodness our other dog had spent the night on our enclosed back porch or we'd have 2 dogs to do the treatment on.

I'm going to wait until the weather is warmer to bathe the dog. Our well water is so cold it hurts. He just won't get as much attention for a while. Poor thing. I do hope he learned his lesson though.

Our silly dog tangled with a skunk TWICE! Not having any tomato juice on hand, in desperation I filled a bucket with warm water and added about 1/2 cup of Shaklee's Basic H. It worked! Both times. I'm not a dealer either, but Basic H is one of the best cleaners for just about anything.

Thanks for the recipe! Our beagle puppy has had one puppyhood experience she wont forget! Tomato juice made her tolerable, but she still is fragrant!!
