The patron saint of Singles ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : I Wasn't Built to Get Up at this Time : One Thread

If St Valentine gets to be the patron saint of lovers/love/mushy stuff and has his own day too (Valentine's Day), why can't we have a patron saint and a day as well for singles ? That way who are single won't feel have to feel bad on Valentine's day. Any suggestions who that the patron saint of singles might be and why ?

Me! Pick me!

Actually, don't pick me. That's one job I sure don't want. As if I didn't feel bad enough...

As for St. Valentine, according to Britannica, on February 14th we celebrate the saints day of TWO St. Valentines. So instead of wishing eachother a Happy Valentine's Day, it should be Happy Valentines' Day.

See what I did there? I made a punctuation joke! I feel so grown-up...

Patron saint of signles eh? I'd say Elizabeth Taylor if I was being heavily ironic but I'd say there's no-one who quite captures the futility of being lonely then Miss Haversham from "Great Expectations". (Hey, Brandine I did a serious post on this forumy thing!, come have a look-see!)

I think the saint for singles' day should be called st. ass, so we could say happy ass day! one good reason for that name, is that we know taht on this day, everyone wants to get a piece of ass, so we know that the majority of those people who want ass, will somehow get it (whether there is money involved, a job on the line, what have you...). Another reason is that I just like saying the word ass, and I'd like to have a holiday made out of it!

First of all, being in a dopey mood, I thought you were talking about music singles. "I'm the god of all things one-hit-wonderry".

I think it should be Mother Theresa. That's because she's the first person I thought of when the word "single" was mentioned. Hey, she never had a partner, and she was very good, so I say exalt her now.

I'm aware that it was quite an odd choice.
