Adding Flavor to the show...greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread |
I read a challenge idea (thanks Robert Hoover) and it struck me that the show would be incredibly more interesting (don't get me wrong...I love the show) if each challenge had a theme. Getting off an island, escaping a prison, saving a cat, the carnival of doom...his would provide a lot of material for the host (c'mon people...really, how many different ways can you ask an expert which design is better?) and make it more interesting to the less "techy" viewers (like my wife).
Would it dilute it??????????????????????

Dan, is it just me or didn't they try to do thay with this last JYW series. Each one had some sort of theme, like the pumpkin launcher had to destroy the castle wall. The boats (Hey Duane, HELP!) had to save their stranded team mates. The final was Egg in Space if I remember right. All RDF and TLC got for their trouble was everyone complaining that George sucks. All I know is my kids love it as much as I do. Check out one of the many teams trying to make it to the show. http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/broadcastjunkies

Yea, but they were weak attempts. I think of it in terms of what keeps my kids watching. Building a dragster can pretty much stand on it's own...but a lawn mower (okay, combine...no...lawnmower)?!? It needs a lot of stylization to keep everyone interested...
