My cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroid 1 1/2 years ago and has since been on Tapazole for thyroid and Norvasc for high blood pressure. She has gone blind and is losing weight rapidly...down from 10lbs to under 7. We have had her to the vet every month for the last 5 months. Meds and visits are getting very expensive.Now he is recommending surgery. I love my cat,she is eating well and gets around the house fine. Surgery is out of the question,so have switched her to a magnetic collar and an herbal remedy for thyroid called Thyro-H#450. Anyone have an animal with a similiar problem?What did you do? Thanks.

Diane, We have 14 cats(in the house) and 3 of them have had Thyroid surgery. It is not a difficult surgery and much cheaper then the medicine. The cats are much happy, stopped losing weight, actually gaining weight. Do your cat a favor and do the surgery. If your Vet is anything like mine they wouldn't recommend surgery if that was not the best option. E-mail us if you have any questions.

I can bet they want surgery at 1,200 for it. Surgery sounds like a good way to go but the pills are easyer to afford. My old cat has this problem and only ways about 4 pounds[ skin and bones] but she eats good and still plays string. With only a year or two left in her [ if i am lucky, she is my fav]I just do the pills.Used to hid them in food but she started picking them out so then was stuffing them down her throat tell recently when she tried to eat my finger so then i stuck them on the out side gum line and after they got wet sguished them against her gums but now I found that i can split pill in half put in canned cat food [ not very much]and let sit about 5 min then give to her and it disolves into cat food, helps to let her get good and hungry then give it, I lock her in the bathroom for about 10 min to give her time to finish.I some times have to switch back and forth between methods. With her being so skinny I always make sure she stays warm.If she was young I would have the surgery [ read a great artical on it]but she is way to old for that kind of trauma so just do the pill thing and get blood work once a year.
