Subject: Earth from New Space Station

awesome!! Don't forget to scroll from side to side!! Check out this pic of the earth from NASA.... The image is a panoramic view of the world from the new space station. You can scroll East-West and North-South. Canada's population is almost exclusively along the U.S. border. Moving East to Europe, there is a high population concentration along the coast of the Med. Check out the development of Israel compared to the rest of the Arab countries. Moving East, most striking is the difference between North and South Korea. Truly unique! It is an absolutely awesome picture of the Earth taken from the Boeing built Space Station.

It is awesome - I've had that as my PC desktop wallpaper for a few months now. It's actually a composite built up from pictures over (from memory) a period of about six weeks - picking the times when it was night (duh!) and there were no clouds and the moonlight wasn't too bright and there weren't widespread fires over each area.

Point of interest - move from Japan southwest to South Korea. Now spot North Korea. No? It's telling evidence of how bad things are there.

It's also interesting to see how much difference the Gulf Stream makes to the climate in northern Europe, compared to the similar latitudes in the continental areas of North America and the eastern half of what used to be the USSR. And for home (Australia) you see vividly that the population clusters around the coast, or areas of moderate rainfall near the eastern coastline. Almost everything in those isolated lights in the arid interior are mining areas.

That is amazing! I watch the NASA views on satalitte, but that pic is beautiful! All that electricity. Are those lights in the oceans ships? You can see all the way almost to the North Pole. Is that cloud cover over central south Europe or just no population? Thanks Sissy, that is neat!

I'd like to see the same picture this summer when it gets hot in California and everyone turns on their air conditioners. *LOL* (will candles show up on a space station photo?)

Computer dummy here. I typed in the address in several search engines but none came up with the site. What am I doing wrong? Would love to see it.

Barb, I'll tell you how I do it. This certainly isn't the only way, but maybe the easiest. Highlight the address (left click and drag over the address. Don't get extra space on the beginning or end) type control+c (ctrl, hold down while you hit c, release them both) Move the cursor to the "Location" or whatever yours is called that right now has the greenspun address in it. Erase it by backspaces. Leave the cursor there. Hit ctrl+v. The new address should appear. Then hit enter. Should go there immediately. Sorry if I sound too elementary butif you only know as much as I did a year ago, I needed everything spelled out, described and explained. Can't believe I've learned so much! Cora-Vee

Thanks Cora-vee! I got the sight! I signed up for a computer course but had to cancel out. They haven't offer it again lately but when they do I will be there.

An easy way to copy it is to highlight it with the left mouse key. Then, with the arrow on the highlighted address, right click, and choose COPY. Then just click in the address bar on top of your browser and right click, and PASTE, and click GO.

Cindy in KY - Thank You!!! For telling me how to get to site addresses easily. I knew there had to be a way to do that (probably half a dozen ways). I had been typing in the URL, this is so much better! Thank you again. Sandy
