Customers stranded after Telstra email glitch

AAP Almost 70,000 Telstra customers have been left stranded in cyberspace after the telecommunications giant was hit by a suspected computer virus.

And the company, Australia's largest Internet service provider, could face claims of more than $10 million under its customer service guarantee, according to The Australian newspaper.

About 68,000 Big Pond users with email accounts beginning with I, L or M have literally dropped out of the system, The Australian said.

The number accounts for 10 per cent of Big Ponds overall user base, with each customer able to claim $40aday if there are delays in fixing the fault.

The newspaper said a virus or computer glitch could have affected the three separate servers which carry each of the letters.
